Heh. The cross member is a victim of my steep driveway which crests just as it enters the garage.

The blood and guts might have been a pedestrian, but I'm pretty sure it was a rodent.:p

Strange! The FSM has it by its proper name, however. I wonder what the true calibration on that is? Its operating range is .2 to 4.8v, but at what pressures?

It is the yaw sensor. It detects the spin/rotation of the chassis for the DSC/TCS.

Funny, that "boost sensor" looks almost exactly like the Boost control Solenoid on a WRX...

Does it really have something to do with air pressure?

Mazda calls it a boost/baro sensor.

It monitors the intake pressure...be it negitive or positive.

It measures the ambient air pressure. It isn't connected to the intake. It just measures the static air pressure so that the MAF will be referenced to something other than just air temperature.
It has an intake tube about the size of a crayon extending straight down where it sits between the ECU cover and the air pump.
That is why it is called a barometric pressure sensor.
Why Mazda corporate would call it a boost sensor is beyond me. It isn't listed as such anywhere in the published literature.
