A dyno for a reflash is kindda unrealistic. But, what really interests me is to take a look at A/F, ignition & other dinky winky sensors during normal & WOT driving. Unfortunately, I started logging data after getting my M flash (I probably sound like a crack addict...), so no K & L data.

In any case, if there are any owners in the Dallas/Richardson area interested in doing some data logging with a CANScan, I will be more than glad to supply mine for a little comparison. Although, I don't know how valid the results will be when comparing 2 different vehicles:
I've seen some really wide discrepancies between different cars with the same level of trim (completely stock)

Anyone interested, PM me.

N flash

Is it possible that the N flash explains why someone recently dynoed at 200+ hp? While everyone else is dynoing in 180's

Not in this case.
Warren (Renwar1) is/was at the "M" flash at the time of the dyno.

Got the N flash today. Upgraded from M. Had the delay in power after shifting in higher RPM's. Delay is gone. Engine/exhaust note sound different to me. A little bit more of a growl I guess. Hard to describe.

So good so far.

Got a new 8 last week, and dealer/shop advised that all latest updates were Flashed.. supervisor wasn't aware of term 'Flash' (i.e. N Flash), but assured it was. Running real smooth, and has only 120 miles total now, so we'll see...
This is the first time I heard of these Flashes, from reading the threads, and looks like it's a real cool idea to constantly update performance & issues, (almost sounds like it works like Windows XP patches)....
Are any other cars, like other than RX-8 Mazda models, that have these???

When I went in for warranty battery replacement they gave me N Flash too. I have also noticed the lack of hesitation at 6000 rpm when going to 9000 rpm. :D I do this a least once a week to clean out any build up.

Regarding the carbon build up, is it a good idea to rev up before shutting down every time, even if engine is warm and been driving all day, to kind of "flush" everything out???

I took my car in for a CEL last week. They told me that it was an error with the evaporator...or something like that. They reflashed me to N, and sent me on my way. The only thing I really noticed is that the car felt "flat" above 6000 rpm. I usually have a little rattle and increase in induction noise at 6250...but it doesn't happen anymore. It is weird, as it seems to be intermittent. Sometimes it's flat, sometimes its not. Later that day, the CEL came back. I took it back in and they ordered a new gas cap, claiming that the cap is leaking, not maintain pressure in the tank, and allowing vapors to escape. Replaced the cap, but they did not have time to reset the CEL.

In regards to the N flash, I wonder if the car is just reset and is re-learning your driving style...as mentioned earlier in this thread. I will drive a little harder and try to give you guys a better description of what my car is doing.

He's referring to reving up to 7k+ while driving to clear up the carbon build up in the plugs. What you are saying is reving at idle then killing the engine when the needle starts to go down to burn the extra gas to prevent floods.

Wow :)

Just got back from the dealer for my 7500 mile service. I had read about this 'N' Flash business, but decided not to even mention it to see what happened. I have a dec. 2003 gt with 6200 miles that had the 'M' flash done at its first oil change. (had the service done early cuz it needed oil anyway).

Well ... I got it back and there was a MSP04 reflash on the work order... here's what I noticed:

Startup smoother than usual and reved higher & longer on warmup.

Sound is DEFINATELY better, at all rev ranges, but especially low-end, sounds like a properly tuned rotary now

Power down low is definately increased... found myself using lower gears than usual, even started in second from a dead stop and barely had to slip the clutch.

Seems like more power all around... I chirped going in to 2nd without even shifting hard. Previously I had only chirped once in 2nd and 3rd with pretty hard shifts that I will never do again.

Hesitation-then-surge around 6k rpm all but gone. Power delivery is buttery smooth from 2k to 9.5k.

Don't know about gas mileage yet... probably worse in the short term. I found myself slowing down and acellerating a lit just to feel the torque and hear the new purr/growl I have 350+ mile trip coming up this weekend that I usually average at 19mpg, so I'll post back any progress in the mileage department (I'll try to drive the same as I used too despite the new found goodness).

My vechicle is in that vin range for N flash. I have had the M flash about 7 months ago. Have been to dealership 2 times in last 2 weeks. Neither time did they update it.

I just had my car at the dealer for a new water pump and new headlight lenses and I requested the new flash and he said I have the latest one. My car was last updated last June. So when I went back to pick up my car I brought a copy of the TSB and he got mad and told me the same thing over again.

I am not happy they won't give me the latest version, my car definitely falls into the affected VINs, too.

I guess I will have to search for a new dealer.
