Lastest PCM N Flash - More Power

Maybe it's my imagination but since I got my PCM flashed yesterday, the car seems quicker especially in the lower RPMs. It is also idling much smoother - purring like a sedated kitten!

Anyone else notice a boost after the n flash?
Bill

Much Faster After N Flash Am I Dreaming ?

I got the lastest N flash today at the dealership in San Jose, and I can confirm that the car is significantly faster at the low to midrange level. There is definitely more punch in power and torque at lower rpms than before. Anybody else notice this change after the N flash?, or am I the only one who is either daydreaming or very lucky here? Either way, I am a very happy camper here with my Mazda RX-8

I think you're dreaming. But then again if you were coming from a "K" or "L" flash that would account for what you're feeling. As far as I'm concerned, they didn't change anything going from M to N with regards to the fuel ratios.

It could also be that the ECU has reset and is re-learning your driving habits.

Have fun!

If I have no problems now with M flash, I feel hesitant on getting the"N"until I hear more feedback.

I got the 'N' flash in December, and there is a noticeable difference in low end grunt, even the sound is better - it kinda 'growls' now. I had the 'M' flash before. Mileage improved a solid 1 mpg (which is a nice thing). Oh yeah, there is less soot on the exhaust tips.

I think Mazda is making a real effort to get the HP - flooding and MPG issues balanced, and the 'N' flash is the proof.

Most Definitely Faster With N Flash

Yeah, I also noticed the same thing here since I got the N flash done yesturday at the dealership. Much more power at the low to midrange rpms. Definitely feels faster, and more torquey at lower rpms. I posted in another thread to see if I was the only one thats dreaming. Looks like the N flash is much more than just an updated M flash as other members have also cofirmed a faster car. Mazda did something with this flash with air/fuel ratios, not sure what but I'm not complaining...Makes me only want to drive the car even more than my 24k's a year!

I agree. The N flash feels much quicker off the line.

I got the N flash yesterday...I agree with selmeralto....it does feel quicker. Starting appears to be a little faster (less hesitation)...at least from what I remember from before I got the N flash.

Fvck now I want the N flash. Can you request it from the dealer or do you have to get a letter in the mail?

It gets done automatically if you bring the car in for something else. If you want to go in only for this, I'd recommend you call the Service Desk and ask if they'll do it.

IS this official? Or is this the redone 'M' flash for people that had a bad batch of M-Flash? I just had my oil changed a couple of weeks ago and my dealer didn't mention N flash--and they are very good about keeping me up to date--especially since the advisor I go to has an RX8 himself.

I never had a problem with the M flash and didn't report a problem when I went in. (I was just going in for some cosmetic work.)

Yes--the flashes are for all RX8s--however the verdict is still out on whether this supposed N-Flash is all new.

I can make some runs on my canscan and check the AFR if everyone wants.. I don't think I have a good clean 'M' flash run though.

I recall seing a link to the latest TSB for this somewhere on these forums and, as I recall, it only applied to VIN less than 103xxxx (i.e. about 3/4 of the way through the 2004 model year).

Which didn't make any sence to me.

That would indicate that after that VIN cutoff Mazda was shipping the cars from the factory with this latest flash.

As posted on the other N thread:

http://www.finishlineperformance.com.../01-008-05.pdf

This VIN range is for vehicles built before March 12, 2004. I find it hard to believe that they changed the flash in March of 2004 and are only getting around to releasing it now.

You're right... that's the cutoff of the 'M' flash in production, IIRC. So the question that still remains is this 'N' flash really new, or just a fixed version of the 'M' flash...? With this many people claiming performance differences, perhaps it is new. My dealer has always geen great about giving me flashes- I 'll have to schedule something with them and try it out (I'm still on 'M' from last summer).

as far as i know- ther is not a difference between the H/M and the Z/N but my resources are limited. basically the last service bulletins said if you have H/M then they dont have to flash your pcm to Z/N. so that makes them BASICALLY the same. however there could be tweeks to the af maps i just dont know that for certain yeah or nay. course it could be timing changes as well.

no it indicates that cars built after march 12th 2004 came with H/M so are considered "up to date" by mazda. they want every car to be updated to at least that level. however people just now getting updated will go to the Z/N flash.
