im too cool:)

well-I'm cool. Too cool it seems because i am throwing Po 126.
I have installed a new type thermostat and other stuff and now my high temps are in the 165-175F area while the ambient temps are in the 60's 70's. it warms up just a little slower than before.
The car throws this code because the ect temp compared to the iat temp (and other stuff probably)?
So my question is--how does this affect me? Isnt 165-175 enough for stable operation in open and closed loops?

You are too uninformed and also too quick to shoot from the hip

Your goal is to not have the engine overheat under continuous load. Many of the things you are doing effect non-load conditions resulting in inefficient engine operating temps and ultimately faster engine wear.

Don't you think that if 165 degrees for continuous use was ok for this engine, mazda engineers would have put in a lower temperature thermostat... you're causing a lot of unnecessary wear on your engine by never letting it get to operating temp.

Denny...you want to be in the 190 range....go back to a stock thermostat

Are you still running the thermostat with the hole drilled in it?

Stock thermostat gives very close to 180 F (OBDII sensor) with only a degree or two of variation. The feed water temp (lower radiator hose) reads 165 F in normal cruise. If yours is varying over a 10 degree range, it's stuck. A small hole drilled in it will cause somewhat longer warmups, but won't change the "set" temperature nor should it cause such a wide temp variation after warmup.

i was experimentationing ( ha) with a stewart warner barrel type 180F thermostat and plugging the by pass.
My oil temps where ok in the 180F range 190. Warm up approx 1 more mile than usual with one hole in thermostat and no bypass.
Instead on running 170-180 all the time, the weather changed and the temps dropped just a little.
I am running 50/50 coolant too.
I agree with yall that 165 is a bit too cool, but i think this thermostat/plugging bypass has some merit within some environments. The car was sure easier to keep cool during in town driving and low rpm use. temps varied 180-190 most all the time when ambients were in the 80'sF. Now ambients are in the 40-60 range.
I have already switched back to the Mazmart stat yesterday. Only ran this stat set up for a couple hundred miles.
appreciate the responses. what took yall so long.

Your mudslinging is not up to your usual low standards by leaving out the target of your superiority complex. If you're referring to my comment, it's what I've observed/measured. I would point out that your own comment is unreferenced. In another thread yesterday, I referenced a DOE supported study carried out by an engine manufacturer, university, and two national labs. That apparently also did not meet your standards (which seem to vary, depending on what kind of insult you wish to hurl) and was responded to by a square wheel picture.

One experience that I've heard multiple times at various RX-8 events is that people tell me that they've been on the RX8club list, but no longer are, because rude people like you poison the experience and are allowed to do so. Your name has been brought up more than once in this regard; I suspect you're proud of that, heh?
