okay how many times a week or day you say you go WOT in your car i'm just trying to get ideas if i'm pushing it or doing like how every other owner is.

One WOT acceleration per day. My driving is mostly suburban, with no speed limit over 45 to or from the office. So I really don't have much of an opportunity to put the pedal to the metal on a daily basis. But there is one stretch of road that, if the traffic conditions permit on my way home, I go WOT into 3rd gear then throttle back to maintain a safe speed limit. I know its not much, but I sure look forward to it each day.
By the way, I haven't had the rpms above 7,500 yet (manny tranny). That's right, I've never heard the beep!

 

You poor thing! Beeping is a list membership requirement. Hitting fuel cutoff is even better

I do a WOT, beeping shift run at least once per day, up this particular long hill on my drive home. I usually find a few more excuses per day as well :D

When the opportunity presents itself, I try to make a point of hitting redline at least once per startup (obviously, I avoid short trips). However, when I take my car to work, it is rare that I do get this opportunity (rush hour traffic... grrr). I've heard people on this forum say that it is good for the rotary engine.

 

Whenever I feel its needed....but then again, the ECU is learning your driving style. If you floor it everyday, and take it to redline...it will always be waiting for the next time you do it...

I noticed that when I reset my car, then drove like a granny for two weeks, I was able to get the best fuel mileage I have ever gotten with mixed driving...17.2mpg. As soon as I put it to the floor, that all changed....back to 14.8mpg.

 

WOT - depends how long the drive. 6 mile drive to work ~ 7-8 times each way, and that's after giving it time to warm up.

Beep - same drive, about 1-2 times, normally the 2-3 shift.

I included the times I'm at WOT low in the rev range (<6K rpms).

 

Maolin34--Pardon my ignorance here, but what is the procedure for "reset" the PCM. I drive like a granny on my daily (5 miles, not over 50) for two weeks, then hit the highway for a thousand miles of 80-90. I'd like to be able to "unlearn" one pattern and re-learn another occasionally.

 

Just last Friday I was at a rather well-known Mazda shop. In talking to the technician, the RENESIS needs to see the high RPM range often, to reduce carbon build-up.

The beep is activated 3-4 times per day. I just can't hear it over the beautiful sound of the Racing Beat Catback.

 

I hear the beep about 5-10 times a day if Im lucky...

 

A lot of people don't believe this, but it's so true. Rotaries need to blow that crap out fairly often to keep the build-up to a minimum. I try to beep at least once per day, more if traffic is willing. My favorite is a nice sustained WOT 3rd gear pull to redline... followed by a gradual deceleration and the beautiful jet engine sound the rotary makes :D

 

Hitting redline often also helps reduce stress build-up on the driver!

 

LOL, true but the beeper has GOT to go. It was amusing the first 1,000 times, but now it's a like a nagging passenger. Reminds me of those old SHIFT NOW idiot lights for fuel economy. It's like the car is stuck in BEGINNER mode.

 

Hitting redline in first then doing a hard shift to second and making the tires chirp is the best answer for stress EVER.

 

There is a beeper mute **** in the middle of the dash... it's labeled 'volume' though :D

Dunno if you ever drove an RX7, but I'll take our subtle beep over the old buzzer they had. That scared the hell out of me the first time I heard it.

 

Dependant on traffic, but I hear the beep no less than once a day.

 

Would this be included in the break in period?

I understand that it is good for the rotary engine in the fact it helps clear out the carbon build up...But are we supposed to do this while were breaking in the car as well.

My main concern is that people are saying to do it every day, but the break in recommendations are 2k miles, and your not even close to redline.

 

TRUE THAT!!!! The first time I ever drove a 3rd gen I was passing a school bus(empty) in 3rd gear wound out. I hit the buzzer and almost lost it cause on one side of the road I had a dense stand of trees and the other side not 2-3 feet away was the cheese wagon so the exaust was going very loud. I heard the buzzer and was like **** now i am breaking the thing on the test drive. Good thing the guy was too busy to ride along cause I ended up topping out fourth before I slowed down(stupid but fun).

 

No, you don't want to redline the engine during break-in. Not sure who gave you those recommendations for 2k, but they are on the extreme side. The manual only specifies to take it easy during the first 600 miles... and many of us waited to open her up fully until 1k miles though. If you wait until 2k to wind out the motor, you're probably going to get some pretty good build-up.

 

I'd say WOT 1-2 times a day. I often push off my normal shifts until the 5k mark though, even in heavy traffic. I try to get 8-9k at least once a day. The sound and feel are incredible, and I love being able to do 40 in first gear on a 6 speed.

 

There's another factor in determining the number of times you should redline in a day- its directly proportional to the number of times in a day you get a chump with a fart-tube reving his engine at you while you are side-by-side at a stoplight...

 

Too often since intake and exhaust mods have been done and it's killing my gas mileage! I guess I have no other choice but to get a CanZoom system to try and mediate the fuel consumption. :D

 

Five times in thirteen months....once accidentally with the stereo up loud. No need to get it up into the stratosphere, 6500-7000rpm is plenty for me. And yes, I have a six speed .
