HELP: Mazda Engine cleaner application done---> now problems!
So I bought the mazda zoom power engine cleaner and did the job last night as per nycgps's diy instructions. I go to start the car today, and do the warm up/rev work. Now I have the check engine light on and there is a distinct and loud ticking/whistling sound coming from the engine (It was there ever since I first started the car up after the treatment). It increases and decreases in volume and goes up and down in pitch as the motor revs. Any ideas whats going on??
Thanks
Sam
Thanks

04' MT w/ 42k miles.
The only things disconnected were the two connectors on the pass side of the engine bay and the one at the bottom by the big pulley. All 3 are snapped back together and in place. Also, the rubber things that close off the 2 nipples where the cleaner was injected are both in place.

Clear the CEL by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. That happened to me the last time I disconnected and then reconnected the Eccentric Shaft Position Sensor (which I assume is one of the connectors you refer to).

All is well now! The sound just disappeared the next time I started her up. The cels were 0480 and 0481 which are about the cooling fan. Ive had these on before due to my mazsport cooling fan nod. Guess it was just a weird coincidence that it came on right after I did the cleaning.
Thanks for all the quick help though guys!! Much appreciated!!

I observed the weird ticking sound on both cars that I did this to yesterday. As I mentioned in the DIY thread, only 1 car threw a CEL.
Both had a different sound to them for a few minutes but returned to normal.
Glad you're fixed.

be aware that youare essentially washing all the lubricant from the rotor housing surfaces and seals, although there is some light lubricant in most of these types of cleaners
technicians with the Mazda service equipment are directed to initiate an increased MOP sequence following the cleaning procedure
if you intend to do it yourself you may want to consider adding oil back onto the surfaces similar to performing a compression test prior to actually firing it up, my 2 cents
