Well my has been running super good . Had to buy new fuel pump got one from BHR and great service like always and fast shipping with great prices. have been shopping for suspension and finally made up my mind. TEIN lowering springs and probably konis or beilstein shocks will see how this goes. but me a 1st gen should get next week adding another project to my list :-)

Just finished reading the thread, Great read.. Im curious, how much did the rebuild cost you, and about how long to do it yourself?.. im at about 98k on my original engine . It seems to be running fine but, im getting prepared for what lies ahead.. doesn't look like it took too long to do.. im really interested in cost, so I can start saving now. I want to clean up my entire engine bay and do the rebuild, thinking about boost (but thats another story) thank you for posting everything.

I been wanting to post that up for a while , I will try to get you info ASAP , is in my garage in a bin , I saved every receipt so it should be easy. It added up more for me since I bought. ACT clutch kit , BHR with Spark pLug Kit that added a good amount on build . But is been running good now and what helped me with all this was Rotary Ressurection and info guys here helped me with , plus I have some knowledge of rotary , plus my cousin and good friend they have been building RotRy Engines for over 15+ years so that helped a lot .

But I did almost everything Oem I'll post info later .

Ok is been about 2 years 20,000 + or more miles I put on my build is my daily and is great , but I've notice I may need Something for my cooling , I got a new oem thermostAt when I rebuild engine , but 20k miles lAter I think I may need a Radiator or water pump or thermostat . I am going to flush coolant and add Mazda coolant but wanted to know . What's best to replace first , I'm guessing radiator ! I've notice my needle go up a bit more Than usual in this Florida heat this summer , any info will help me lots thanks .

Or should I just replace coolant after flush and flush radiator and see if it helps ?

1) replace thermostat. i have an OEM thermostat with only 3,000 miles im going to sell in the next few days (thats right three thousand miles. just got the car and got it installed due to issues with the car running hot, but my remedy thermostat just came in the mail so i am selling my oem one that i just installed as soon as i switch them out)

2) make sure around your radiator is properly sealed. if the air is getting around instead of going through it, that could cause more issues. double check the spaces around the edges and the body of the car are sealed up.

3) replace water pump depending on mileage on your current pump. you can replace with OEM or remedy, however know the remedy is backordered currently if i remember right so it might be faster and easier to get an OEM.

3) use the mazda extended life FL-22 coolant. works great even in south florida heat.

dont just do it in steps, do all three at once. at least thats what i would do... let me know if you wanna buy my OEM thermostat (thats basically almost new)

Engine rebuilt update 8 years running strong

Just and update . I sold my Rx8 to my cousin 4 years ago . Car still running perfect with 0 issues . Little maintenance here and there but over all everything engine working perfect . Miss my Rx8 but I will have another one some day . And I’ll do it all over just like i did here .
I’m still working on my Rx3 but going 3 rotor I have most of my engine and still restoring my Rx3 . I now have a GSL-Se as well 👍🏼. Rotary cars are fun

Thanks

Im going 3 Rotor for my Rx3 and going NA, so I’m going to be using Rx8 Rotors machined to fit correct Apex seals for my built and balanced and clearance 🏁.
