I am using the stock OMP rate with the SOHN and I am premixing Lucas UCL at 5oz. My gas mileage sucks though at 15MPG average.

What would you guys think of this? Its called PJ1 goldfire racing oil premix for high RPM. Its available at my local store so I dont have to order idemnitsu.

Im guessing its for bikes but it seems really good
Attributes:

Originally developed in conjunction with Kenny Roberts' Grand Prix road race team under race conditions
Can be mixed up to 50:1

Reduces internal deposits and spark plug build-up when fuel system is correctly adjusted/jetted

What makes it better is that its not a TCW3 oil which people said not to put. Its rated as:
ISO-L-EGD, JASO FC, API TC

its 22$ a quart but it seems like a good buy. What y'all think?

$22.00 a quart? Holy **** what a rip. Also, they offer no technical data on it that I can find. How do you know its even synthetic?

actually it is synthetic. www.pj1.com i was reading behind the label and it seems it has all the qualities you would look for in a premix.

That premix was intended for race use and not the street. As such it's protection capability is going to be totally wasted. It would only benefit an actual track car that sees sustained high RPM's for long periods of time.

Just because their website says its "racing grade synthetic" doesn't mean it it is. Why do they not list any technical data on it? Everyone else does.

Doesn't really matter. For $22 a quart unless it includes a reach around I wouldn't bother.

I've tried it, they sell them here at canadian tires in half quart bottles for 11$... expensive shiat.


In any case, it seems to work fine, obviously like any premix... there is no real way to tell if its doing its job or not.

Im sure its good stuff. Has all the ratings necessary in any case, but its way too expensive.

I personnaly jumped around between different premix brands and came to the conclusion that as long as it meets the requirements (namely: ISO-L-EGD, JASO FC, API TC) its good enough.

Amsoils is about 14.99$ a quart, too much imo.

Lucas is around 10$ which is more reasonable.

But I found the Motormaster Formula 1 premix on special one day (2.50$ a quart) and suprisingly it meets all the same requirements.

Maybe it doesnt have as good additives as the others or detergents, but Im sure the oil works just as well, and thats what we need, oil protection or lubrication to use the proper term.

So from that moment I figured, hell, for 2.50, I'll pour in 8 oz instead of 4oz and its still costing me allot cheaper, and I feel that my engine is protected.

for 2.50 you could buy 9 for the price of one 22dolla pj1.
Motomaster Formula 1 is good, I've used it in the past in my 2stroke dirtbike.
Cheap and effective. good 'ol Cambodian Tire.

22$ for a quart? Really? why not buy two quarts of lucas?
All the qualities of this synth might be acheived at high rpm/high heat only.
Like echo or stihl 2 stroke, it works great at 8 to 14k rpm. Not for everyday use.

There are 128 oz in a gallon.
Thats 99.6% fuel and 0.4% oil.

0.5 oz will not really make a difference on mileage.

I didn't see any change in fuel consumption.

Probably just coincidence then. I ran two tank fulls of 1oz per gal and my mileage was down both of those tanks. Went back to 1/2 per gall and my mileage went up. not just Psych because i wasn't expecting my mileage to change. I check mileage with each tank out of habit.

5.25 OZ of Lucas UCL seems to be working great. I have also noticed on long trips my car drinks from the SOHN reservoir like a drunken sailor on leave. I did 700 miles on the road since Thanksgiving day and I used almost as much as I had since installing it a month ago.

Honestly reading the DIY and everyone's comments had me thinking it would be a tough install but I was able to knock it out in an hour or so. There is one bolt for the OMP that is sort of hard to get too but nothing patience and a 1/4" ratchet couldn't tackle.

On a scale of 1-10 I would say a 3.

Please forgive me: I'm new, its not a gas tank and its not proportional: my experiment: pour gas in a glass jar and poor in premix. It pretty much goes to the bottom. This is Amsoil Saber Pro.

I did the same thing with Lucas UCL and it seems to distribute pretty well.

I'm sure this is old hat to all of you, but I don't think my premix procedure is good enough. I put in about 8 gal of gas, poor in my 4 to 5 oz of Amsoil Saber Pro and then put in another gallon.

Now i am thinking i need to keep a container of gas at home, thoroughly mix the premix there, and then poor that gallon or two into my tank. How much gas do I need to have to mix 4 to 5 oz of premix into before I poor it into my tank? Is one gal enough? Is this not worth the effort?

I believe some believe the premix needs to be premixed. It's funny you mention this because I was just thinking about that 15 minutes ago when I was filling up. I always run to empty, I'm not the type to add 5, 10, 15 dollars of gas here and there. So I always dump in 6oz of Lucas and then fill up. We should do some testing.

The Lucas UCL appeared to mix quite well just by pooring it in, so i think you are fine. I have been planning on using Amsoil Saber Pro and that is where my concern is.

Yeah I am an Amsoil preferred customer but anyway i worked it it just wasn't cost effective after comparing the product data sheets.

Well, I did the Saber Pro into a one litre bottle of Petrol (gas) and IMO the blue 2 stroke mixes well (clear container), Nothing is going to "perfectly" mix until there is some movement of the fluid in your tank....to say otherwise is just ridiculous.

Look, I just dump the Pre Mix, fill up, and drive off with a few quick left and right "shake ups" moves...works Ok for me..

Yes, you can pre-dilute, where are you going to do this at the Gas Station?, people will think you are mad, or wait until you get home?...MMmmm

Either way you are still not going to mix it through all your Gas (Petrol) 100% if you have a full or near fill tank and then add your pre-mixed pre-mix, how is this going to get over to the other tank saddle if that is already full with fresh gas..

Really this is all very silly IMO, just put the Oil in and Fill Up...

IMO, you will soon tire of the over-rated procedure of pre mixing your pre mix...!

Whatever you do the pre-mix cant be perfectly ratio-ed through all your fuel.

Is part of what you are saying that it mixes better when it is poored in first? I have been pooring it in before the last gal of gas. I do the right and left "shake-ups" too, but in a full tank there isn't much room to slosh around. Also the filler is above the fuel pump, so isn't the gas sucked in from there?

Yeah, I don't really want to fool with this (I would do the container of gas when I get home and just have an emergency bottle of premix with me.) And, yeah, I am obsessive, but for my engine I am ok with that.
