Each of these are 5.25oz. Should be perfect for a full tank right? I can get 4 gallons (48 tanks worth) for $80.00.

Here is a good ratio conversion calculator on US Fluid Ozs, and Metric Litres.

This has chart been floating around for some time, but is littered with things that make no sense, like Shell Rotella T 15W40 oil having essentially the same lubricity/antiwear rating as straight diesel - not a chance.

I'm in no way refuting or accepting the results of that test and in no way believe I am qualified to do so.

However I have to make a comment about your remark.

Using a quote from a Marvel Director to refute a test that shows Marvel in a bad light, is like using a quote from the Bible to prove the authenticity of the Bible...

Just saying...

Agreed - it would be expected for the Marvel Director to refute the claims and how much credibiity you lend to that is up to you. I would share that several others manufacturers also refuted, with the same conflict of interest issues.

The main thing I was just trying to point out that this study, though done with the best of intentions, has quite a bit of questionable data, partly because this is somewhat of a controversial test in the first place as it designed to simulate injector wear and metal types, not engine typical wear and metal types, and thus is not really very representative of typical engine wear results. You also have the diesel versus gas comparison as any of these products would great increase the lubricity of gas as diesel is already very lubricious to start with.

I would just be careful as to how much of your decision making you lend to the data in this study.

i have been following MMO info with interest. As you know I have since 2004 been a pre mix advocate but due to fuel supply issues it has been a benefit versus risk thing for me at times.
The more i have discovered the more I look at MMO with interest. If I understand correctly MMO is basically a 3 wt oil and benzene? I understand that lubricating efficiency is not always based on the viscosity of the oil and logic seems to tell me that a 3 wt oil would be a good thing for the injectors etc.
So my question is the benzene. Is it ok to use that constantly at the concentrations of 1/2 oz of MMO to the gallon and at time 1 oz to the gallon?

Absolutely - various forms of benzene, in the the case MMO it is 2 forms if dichlorobenzene, have always been used in fuel for the lubricity and efficient combustion they provide.

Recent years have seen the reduction of various benzenes in fuel due to pollution controls, so MMO just adds some back and provides the good qualities it has always provided - very, very good lubrication, cleaning, and reducing wear significantly. This is just one the ways this 5 wt oil can have such great lubrication qualities - in addition it has Phosphorous and Boron to add additional lubricity (and no it will not hurt the catalyst).

Hi guys. Trying to find a good two stroke oil to use with the Sohn adapter and maybe premix as well. I'm looking for something that's easily available where I live (Switzerland). Unfortunately I don't have access to the stuff that you are using in the States, like Idemitsu. The shipping would be more expensive than the product itself.

I'm looking at the Shell Advance line - the two stroke oil from Shell. Shell has a big network in Switzerland, I can get it anywhere. Has anyone used this and can you share your thoughts? Also what should I get, full synthetic, semi, mineral and why? Thanks.

Here is the link the their 2 stroke range if you want to have a look:

I would love to know this as well.
I'll be looking into if it's worth me pre-mixing (I have a rebuilt '04 with about 18 thou on the ticker), and if so what oil l should use out of the ones l have access to. For anyone else in Australia, l'll post up what l find.

Thanks to everyone who has posted, should be a good read...

so to sum it all up..

1/2 ounce of MMO per gallon works as a premix oil and fuel conditioner.

is that correct?

That is correct. From my understanding of this thread, use a high quality MMO that was made for premixing. Most people here use between 4-8 oz of MMO. No one really knows what the magical number is, but no one has had any adverse effects. I use a small bottle of Lucas(about 5 oz) and fill it with MMO after every fillup. Makes it easier to grab and dump into my tank while at the pump.

Unless you're too embarrassed to admit to using something called "Marvel Mystery Oil"--then there's more expensive options available.

Depends on your criteria for "works". All I can say for sure is -- the car still runs. But MMO's composition makes sense to me given this engine's peculiarities. Perhaps more important to me, it's easily obtainable here in convenient quantities at a reasonable price. If I had to special-order Idemitsu I'd never bother.

I just pickup a high quality MMO from AutoZone for like $3 and use 5oz every other fillup. My reasoning for that is when I refill my tank, there is still gas in it which still has oil in it. Over time, the amount of oil in the gas will be greater than the 5oz im putting in. Now, we are talking months, maybe years, but I figured 5oz every other fillup should dillute it to the point where it wont matter.

I didn't know there was a high quality MMO... I was pretty sure it was just MMO...

Anyway started premixing last night.. If I remember correctly
1. pour in the 7 or 8 ounces into a small gallon can
2. fill can with gas, dump that in the tank
3. fill up..

at least that's how my buddy with a turbo II did it.

other good news. my rough idle has completely gone! I haven't noticed a change in MPG but that's ok.

I guess what I mean by "High Quality" is name brand. I refuse to by some Joe Schmo brand.
