You won't be sorry. 4 years and mine works just fine. No washer to worry about, no wrenching while under the car, no hot oil running down your arm, no fishing the bolt out of hot oil, and a much easier reach.

i bought fram suredrain first .. the hose fell apart after a few oil changes. Then I went with fumoto valve.

fumoto costs a bit more, but it really is the better choice.

Bump. I just put this on. Couldn't be any easier. Anyone who does their own oil changes should get this if for no other reason then because they no longer have to worry about crush washers or over-tightening.

And they changed the name of the product. It's now Quick Oil Drain Valve rather than the Fumoto Valve.

I just got the Fumoto with the adapter. Do you think I should use some loctite on it when I thread it onto the adapter?

there is no need for it. You don't use loctite in your oil drain plugs normally, do you?

So I just installed the fumoto Quick Oil Drain Valve today and the way it ended up screwing on is a bit worrisome. The spring assembly points downwards instead of up. Should I be worried? I'm paranoid about it clipping something since the car is so low. And this kinda negates one of the main draws of the valve which is to not have hot oil splash all over your hands. The way it is now, my hand will be in the path of the draining oil. I've included a pic.

Ive had one for awhile... But what about the metal fillings??? I mean with the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve you dont get to wipe off your drain plugs metal fragments etc that it catches...

Anyone?

I thought I read somewhere that the oil drain plug is not magnetized...

It only takes 2 fingers at most to operate the valve, so it's easy to do without having your hand in the path of the oil stream. It's a smaller opening so oil does not shoot out as fast as with pulling the drain plug.

Mine points downward too. I was initially concerned but hasn't been a problem. You can secure the lever with a clip ring if you're really worried, like they show on their site. Or if the alignment is really bugging you you could probably get a second or thicker fiber washer, which would change the orientation when tightened.

have had mine for a while now, pretty easy oil change, with a flick of a switch.

oh and mine also points downward. not an issue though.

also considering if i should switch to the other fumoto drain valve with the hose attachment, makes it a lot easier, just siphoning it into a used oil container.

i plan on getting an oil relocation kit, to make the process smoother and less time consuming!

sorry to revive a dead thread but i was reading and saw Stealths post saying he replaced his with a magnetic drain plug .. and no one else commented on that.
So the question is is the fumoto valve better or a magnetic drain plug that can catch metal shavings betteR?

Still using the magnetic plug, catches a little fuzz at each change, so I get my warm fuzzies!

Pretty sure the Fram has been discontinued, haven't seen one in years, but I'd have no problem using the Fumoto, it's a quality piece and there is no danger of it opening accidentally.

thanks for the info stealth so now the question is which is actually better for the engine?

i do like the idea of the fast and clean oil change , and i do also like the fact that the magnetic one can catch metal shavings. but someone mentioned before in this thread that our oil pan already has a magnet so im stuck between getting that quick and easy oil change valve or the magnetic one.
