for some reason, i was thinking that posting eBay auction threads were against forum rules... or maybe it was on the SVTperformance board. Bar none, no offense...but yea, that's the auction. Steal of a deal if your set on the suredrain.

I myself seem to be leaning towards the fumoto a lil more, as long as I can get a definate hoo-rah on clearance being ok, and unlikely to snag or get road rash.

the fumoto sounds nicer, but I'll try out the sure drain first. Especialy since I already placed the order and can't change my mind anymore...

Any chance of hitting the valve of the fumoto and draining your oil while you drive?

looks like i'll have to take a pic to show you people how nicely 'tucked in' the valve is away from road debris..

I just put that hose on top of the front of the OEM air box between the two clips. Fits in there easily and is secure with the hood down.

as long as it's not too much work, i think a couple of shots like that would put a lot of questions to rest! That would be really helpful!

you know, i never thought about that. Doesn't that get oil everywhere in that area though? I hate the excess oil in the hose...

That Fram Drain/hose is the same in theory that is used on this Bobcat 442 Excavator.
Look identical. Ihave one at work maybe I will see if it's compatable.

Oddly enough, my problem with oil changes is that my oil pan doesnt fit under the 8 very cleanly, so I have to jack it anyway? i guess i have a really thick oil pan.

I'll add some insight, I have the Fumoto with the extension. About a month ago, I ran into a "slight clearance issue", but not with the valve. Long story short, I hit a 6 foot long piece of re-tread on the highway at over 60 mph. Banged up the lower lip, chipped some paint, cracked the grille. The tread tumbled under my 8, after tying up the lip, laying on the side of the highway and staring at the underside. Not a single leak of any of the fluids. My opinion? No worries about the Fumoto, it was tucked up out of the way and the valve tab faces up so it wasn't touched.

exactly, the stock oil pan is is a lot higher off the ground than you think, you'd be hitting other things on your car first before your oil pan gets touched

I can certainly vouch for that to the tune of about $2000....but at least I don't have to replace that $30 Fumoto ; )

In a rather shifting limelight, I suppose that's a good thing

well, since no one else posted any pics of this valve for my decision making, i figure that I'll post some in hopes to help anyone else out.

I just installed mine today, and i can already see that it will make it SOOOO much easier to change oil now! These pics were snapped from a cell phone, so their not the greatest...but they give you an idea of the minscule amount of the valve that hangs down.

oh yea, and BTW - anyone wanting to get one will HAVE to buy the adaptor ADL-106. That's not an option...even with the adaptor, it was a close fit!

from the front...

the rest are from the passenger side

I know...it certainly seems a lot more complicated then it really should be...

anyway, #6 is the one you want. (F106 with ADL106 adaptor)

Took less then a week to get it in via $4 basic shipping...and that was to OHIO!

I'm already pumped about actaully using it for my next change! After installing it, I dropped the car back down and straightened the wheel up...and I could open and close the valve WITHOUT even lifting the car up...and with an amazing amount of ease!

Having used both suredrain and now fumoto, i'd have to say that the tough tie-breaker is gonna have to go to fumoto...simply because of the no-tools-needed appeal. However, suredrain has yet to have any problems with durabilty...something I can't speak of yet with the fumoto.

Throw one on for $32 total shipped. For the simplicity of draining, matched with the no-tools deal, it's an awesome product!

Unhappy SD gonzo....

Ran my Fram SD for about two years, then took it off.

Just drained too slowly. I modified it a bit so the little ball valve was pushed off its seat a bit more, but still VERY slow. Took it off and replaced my magnetic drain plug - much better, plus it grabs some filings over the months it's in.

At first I was concern about the valve might *hit* something on the floor ... you know all these garbage uneven roads in New york city ....

but after seeing the picture above, it seems that the Valve is *straight* like the original bolt ... so I guess it should be ok. I mean if it hits the valve, it should hit the oil pan as well, which never happen to me yet.

Ok, gonna get one now.

Stupid question, but what is the purpose of the adapter (F106 with ADL106 adapter)? Is it to give it an angle? I'm thinking of getting this for my wife's Quest..I already am using the SureDrain..and yes it is freakin slow..but..it works. I just make myself busy when draining (taking out and replacing oil filter, watch tv, ect.). I'm assuming that this fumoto drain comes with a crush washer...or do we need to buy that as well?

the RX-8's drain plug is recessed into the oil pan on the side, you need the extension adapter so that the oil pan does not block the switch on the fumoto valve.

if you look at the picture posted above, you'll see that the adapter/valve does NOT dip below the oil pan, so no worries about it getting 'snagged' by anything on the ground.

and the valve comes with a fiberboard crush washer, so no need to buy anything else, just remove old drain plug and install.
