fuel economy issues..not any more!!!

hey guys, i have had problems with fuel economy in the past with my 8. i was only getting about 16 or 18 mpg average...about 200-220 miles till fuel light. i purchased the cobb ap from MM a couple of weeks ago and the sport tuned maps are great but the economy mode is AMAZING. i am getting 30mpg(with cruise control) on the highway...30 mpg and 20 mpg in the city(when i drive like an old fart shifting from 2.5k-3.5k). i get about 18mpg shifting at about 4k-5k. this is my first big mod and all i can say is it is amazing. Definetely a must for any rx8 owner.

This is a silly question because I COULD find out myself, but I'm pretty lazy. I have the AP with MM maps, but have never tried the Cobb economy mode. What does the power feel like? Anything/how less than in a regular power-tuned map?

And I thought I read someplace that the regular MM map is better for economy than the specific Cobb "economy map"

Power not so powerful of course I tried to keep up to stock 8 and I couldn't (he even had a passenger in it) but the engine seems to have a different sound to it. Can't put my finger on it. I hear the fuel economy map is hard on the seals because it runs so lean. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I get 20 MPG on the stage 1 map now, and the added HP! The fuel economy is great I used to get like 15 MPG and it didn't matter if it was hwy/cty.

I tried the Economy map on an AP....

Didn't even run one tank thru, before I took it off - it's horrible, gutless slow and nasty. Definitely took all the fun out!

So I guess I'll never find out how 'economy' it really is....oh well.

to bad it can't be used with a switch to change from power to economy that would be really cool!when you think about us old farts we had lil dodge colts that had two(2) shifter's and on one of them you could change from power to economy and they had turbo which made it even sweeter!!110mph between average traffic lights was the best anyone could ask for!eco plus power on demand damm i miss them fast *** ddodge colts rt's.....sigh!...

I'm going to revive this thread because I need more information. Obviously, any thread that says 30MPG catches my skeptical eye. I may buy my 3rd RX08 this week, and one of the biggest things I'm hung up on is the millage. even 25 MPG would be a great improvement. But heres the thing, I don't know what you guys are talking about? What are you using? How does it work? How much does it cost? Where do you get it? How do you install and use it?

I get an "impressive" 17 mpg in city and highway regardless of what speed I cruise at and how hard I accelerate... consistency is my friend :D

I looked at MPG when it was new. It was my seventh so I was curious. I don't fill it much past half way any more. I drive much less now and it's more entertaining on less than a half tank.

If I get over 240 miles on a tank I'm thrilled. Usually 18/19 mpg with 80% highway driving and 20% surface roads.

Worry less about the MPG and more about where you want to drive the miles. It's not an economy car, and it's not going to be great for long commutes in terms of low fuel costs. However, it'll be a great ride.
