Awesome thanks for the info....Why would this dealership say that they need to send it to Irvine, CA to have this done? When I tell them a "new flash" am I stating this incorrectly or how can I clarify this for them? Sorry for being a nOOb with this stuff, but I do appriciate the info/help from you and this site...It rox!

My 04 GT was flashed last week. The start up does take a bit longer but have not noticed anything else.

I took my 05 shinka in the other day - they reflashed - I had a CEL - everything looked fine but my engine was reporting misfires - they told me there was two TSB one to replace the starter and the other to replace the battery - he said the misfires were part of the reason.....also my engine starts way faster after the bat swap....

I came here to get info on it but am not done searching all the TSB threads - lol -

As I understand it, the new flash addresses the issue of a power loss after sustained cruising, especially in high temperatures. The recall will be to install this new flash. It will be a recall because the power loss is potentially a safety issue and it will be mandated by the NHTSA

It is my understanding from my discussions with a savvy Mazda tech, that this update has not (had not?) been approved by the gov't for general release to dealers for installation on all potentially-affected vehicles. Mazda did have authority to apply the update on a case-by-case basis to vehicles exhibiting a particular problem. So until Mazda receives approval from the gov't, any application of this update must be done by MNAO, not the dealers. Apparently, gov't approval is expected soon.

Now, all that may change by the time you read this.

It definitely is a safety issue as I demonstrated today. Power loss kicked in, ran rich and crappy and finally stalled on me at a busy intersection. Nearly flooded the damn thing getting it restarted which took a LONG time to restart. NOT happy right now. Yes, my AC was on.. but it is 98 degrees out.

Guess I get to find out if my dealership has the flash tomorrow.

Talked to Oak Tree Mazda and I'm bringing my car in on Saturday for the flash. The service writer said that the flash is also designed to cure the sand in a blender sound. He called the sound knock though so I'm suspending redlining until I get the flash.

Thumbs down

My car is at the dealership at the monment. I mention and even printed some of the TSB out to them. After I gave them all the problems I got, The service writier said

"IS THERE ANY MORE PROBLEMS?" - Service Writier
"hmm , nope" - me
"If you have so many problems I suggest you to get a Honda Civic instead ....." - Service Writer

Believe it or not ~~ A service advisor works at a Mazda Dealership said that .... and then the Service tech said next to him, looking at my printouts and he said "You should've brought a Ferrari instead " .....

I was about to say "How is that my fault? If its on TSB, that means its a WELL KNOWN problem, if u guys can make better cars I dont even need to come" but I didnt talk back cuz I just want them to replace the stuff first, but I'll save those stuff in my brain and write it to Mazda later. Ok, Anyway

http://www.finishlineperformance.com...04-06-1641.pdf - Clutch hard to Disengage Issue - I didnt want to change this but its hot as #)$#*@) in NY these few days and I starting to notice this issue, so .... just replace it
http://www.finishlineperformance.com...21-06-1559.pdf - HESITATION / IDLE VIBRATION DUE TO CRACKED ENGINE MOUNT - Annoying as hell - happens everytime Im in my 8 ! damn it.
http://www.finishlineperformance.com...23-06-1596.pdf - INSTRUMENT PANEL NOISE - DRIVER SIDE - This one is really annoying when I go over uneven roads/bumps, even on some nice roads.
http://www.finishlineperformance.com...02-06-1531.pdf - BROKEN PARKING BRAKE LEVER COVER - The thing broke couple months ago. TSB just came out, Free replacement, so why not ?
http://www.finishlineperformance.com...4-05-1448e.pdf - ENGINE CRANKS - NO START - This one I just need to change the leading plugs. I have tons of hard start even Summer ! Sometimes I just *crank crank crank crank crank ...* like 6-7 seconds before it would start.
Rear Right Tail Light Has water in it - but I used a blow dryer to blow dry it 2 days ago ... not sure if they will replace it. I should've just leave it alone
Newer Flash - Asked them to flash it to the newest one, I have an 05, they said they will check and its on the service order. So ... they better FLASH IT !
A/C Temp Control **** doesnt work - Sometimes hot air comes out even at the coldest settings. move the **** around will bring the cold air back, Its loose somewhere I dont care, replace it !

Thats it for now (I think) Got a loaner (Mazda MPV) and waiting for them to call so I can go pick it up.

Well mine is a 05, build date I tihnk it was 12/15/2004 tho.

That TSB does not apply to me, but Im still having an issue with it.

Its just stupid that out of nowhere some heat comes out, yeah, its like 100+ degrees outside. Its been like that for a while and they didnt replace it last time, cuz when they turn the A/C on, it's blowing cold air, they didnt even bother to move the **** around. If they dont fix it this time, Im SURE that I will say something to Mazda, and will never go back there again.

One more thing, why they kept asking "Did you brought the car here?"

I mean, does it really matter? Im not a customer of Mazda or something ? Mazda will pay them anyway. cuz I am thinking about pushing my brother to get a Mazdaspeed 3 when it comes out next month, but stuff like these ...... forcing me to think twice before going with Mazda again.

Mazda pays for any parts that need to be replaced, but not the labor.

I'd give that quote to the Sales Manager. They love that s***. Of course, don't ever bring your car there for service anymore...
