Meh, 120,000 + miles on my tranny using Mazda fluid, doing changes every 40k. Still shifts perfect. There is a lot of hype of fluids, very rarely does anyone test them and post up results. But to each his own I guess.

Agreed. I only did mine just to get out the shrapnel that may have accumulated from the new tranny after 3k

Just did my tranny oil today and used this method for filling mainly due to the fact its 40F outside (Brrr!!!) and wanted to spend as little time as possible outside. It was very easy to do this way, the whole project took about an hour going very slowly.

Any recommendations other than removing transmission and flip-draining, if done to a series 2/09+ ? Got a pint in before it was full.

If you’re serious then it’d be less risk to let Jiffy Lube handle it for you. Otherwise go to an auto parts store and buy a hand pump.

this is also a very old thread bump and other than the basic instructions it has some info you shouldn’t rely on.

I am confused here. The drain plug is on the very bottom of the transmission. If the car is level, 95% of the oil will drain on its own. Mine has always taken a hair less than the published capacity upon filling.

Yeah, I had no problems either when changing my fluid. It's also very close to the stated capacity.

You don't need to take the trans off or anything like that. The drain and fill plugs are both easy to access. You can then use this to fill the transmission fluid.

Apparently the series 2/09+ transmissions are different and CAN NOT be filled from the shifter. I was pleasantly surprised by this after adding about a pint this way. I'm asking if there's an easy was to remove the oil from this improper fill, besides from removing transmission and flipping it to drain the shifter cavity.
