Didn't update my situation. I waited a week or two after and got a 24mm socket. Took apart the center console and shifter, drained the fluid, two quarts of Eneos 75W90 gear fluid through the shifter, put everything back, and got around 200 miles on it now. Shifting definitely felt smoother after around 50 miles into the new fluid. Transmission noise is definitely louder but was told by BHR that it is normal for the Eneos fluid.

I'm a happy camper.

When i did my fluid replacement remove shifter and BAM! hole but you need a pump so you can make the fluid go down the i did it the ghetto way and connected a hose the the redline transmission fluid and taped the needle nose to the hose and sat there for at least 20 pouring in fluid

Really, why? You should still have access to the shifter. Maybe OD can confirm since he installed this in his 8.

Yea I was looking at another thread and someone said it wouldn't work on the S2 but they didn't mention why. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do it the hard way haha, but i wonder what the difference could really be between the setup of the 1 and 2.

Dunno, really.
What I don't understand is why filling it up through the proper hole may be considered the "hard" way. The 2 bolts are right there, filling the transmission up takes 2 minutes at the most!

FYI just changed my tranny fluid . On the S2 you cannot go through the shifter hole like others have mentioned, so i just went through the fill hole. Popped in about 1.8-1.9q in there. Glad I did too, I had so much garbage on my drain plug magnet. All seems well, no leaks, some funky burn smell, but it smells like oil thats probably burning from the transmission case from when the oil was draining. Shifting feels much better, but maybe just a placebo effect. I will test more tomorrow.

Probably placebo. It takes some time for the fluid to get into all the cracks and crevices. We are talking 50+ miles of driving.

Yea I was having grinding issues with Mobil1 75W90 (GL-5) so I changed to redline. It took 200+ miles before it got all better.

You changed out the tranny oil after just 3K?! Man you are hardcore.

btw, if the oil was all gray is that due to the metal bits or possible graphite put in at the factory?

If anyone has trouble with the cable (iirc, heated seats and navi) tie downs that are attached to the bolts, Ill make a little tutorial to get them out in seconds. THe paper clip trick didnt work for me after 30 minutes of pushing and fighting. I used two needle nose pliers instead.

Yea they were a bitch to get out. I used a very small flat head screwdriver to push one of the tabs back one notch at a time

I tried two small flat heads too, but gave up and tried the pliers with much success. Take two needle nose pliers, grab the tabs on each side and just pull. INSTA-RELEASEEE

I changed my tranny fluid about 500 miles ago with Idemitsu and WOW whew that stuff is pure honey baby... It feels soo much better. I recommend Idemitsu's tranny oil, which is synthetic, to everyone.

Guys, don't forget that threads way back from 2004 stated that you can put the transmission and differential oil bottles in a bucket of hot/boiling water to make the oil less viscous.

Also, some people back in 2004 reported that the Redline transmission oil produced sticky shifting when the car was cold. The shifting then turned smooth as butter when the car was warm.

However, an even smaller percentage of Redline users reported paradoxically that the shifting was smoother when the car WAS COLD, which was also my own experience with Redline.

^^^ See, thats the thing, I dont like the "Butter" feeling, what it felt like to me when it warmed up was like Water. I started to grind 2nd gear after Redline MT-90, or maybe ironically my synchro just **** itself but after my 2nd gear got replaced I left it on their fluids, and they started to get notchy and no bueno. I filled with Idemitsu and it feels like Honey. It has a thicker feel to it and reassures me that its protecting my gears. Obviously its something you would have to feel to understand...
