Please give us the history on your car. The service it's had parts replaced. Type of driving it gets(long commutes, short trip), fuel used(reg or prem), ever flooded. Just any thing that you can add. What mods...

car has 57000 km. No mods. My daughter drives it like a granny, meaning she doesnt like to get the rpms up quite high enough before shifting. I bought the car about 10000 kms ago. I took it to the dealership for this problem, but it did not fix. They did a diagnostic and said they updated pcm (whatever that means) cleaned the airflow sensor and changed the air filter. Checked the cat (good).

How many miles on plugs, wires, coils? When all those parts are in good shape then I would try a can of Seafoam($8 Walmart) and add it to a half or quarter tank of gas and ring it out give it a few revs to the redline after it warms up. Did they do a de-carbon cleaning on the engine?

All plugs, wires, coils are original. (57000 KM). Where are the coils and how many of them are there? Are they relatively easy to access and change? Are they expensive? This is the first time I experienced this with the car, and the tank was at about 1/4 full. I think I will fill the tank and see if it still happens.

At 60K Mazda says spark plugs... wires and coils are what most do at the same time. You might get by with plugs(about $80 dollars in U.S.) There are four coils. Me and my son put in all three(plugs, coils, wires $250-300 in U.S.) in about an hour. I would try a de-carbon cleaning it fixed mine easy.... add a can...you get a lot of carbon build up in a Rotary engine if you granny it. Look on this site.
