I posted this sometimes last week, but I don't remember where my old post is.... Anyhow, the article states the normal Type S dynoed in at 201ps, and the exhaust helped to raise the power to 213ps. I forgot the exact conversion of ps to hp, but I believe 201ps is around 199whp? The interesting thing is the significant lower rpm power gain achieved by the exhaust. Usually a more free flowing exhaust will increase peak power at the cost of lower rpm torque, but this exhaust seems to help lower end even more so than top end power. Looks like a great mod.

Is it 213 WHP?!!! with this exhaust mod claiming 12 PS???

So, does the JDM RX-8 lay down some 201 WHP? If so, that very acceptable from 250 HP engine. But still loss is at 20% instead of 15%-17%. with 213 WHP it would be great !

Where are the dips? If you look at that (admittedly small) dyno chart you don't see the dips associated with the US-spec engine opening/closing ports.

Just as a comparison ... my 13b powered first gen gained 20-25% from a free-flowing (catless) exhaust system.

It is entirely possible that owners will gain back the missing hp with a few mods to the ECU and exhaust. Emissions will suffer, but there are ways around that.

You gain so much from a free flowing exhaust because the car came w/ so much smog equipment from the factory.

Damn California and their stupid emission standards. Its now very obvious this is the problem if japans 8's at delivering as promised.

I don't know about that~ The California smog law is very strict, but that shouldn't be an excuse as to why the Renesis is down on power. Mazda KNEW the emission regulations and the target requirement they had to meet. Honda, Toyota, and Nissan sure have no problem meeting the emission standards while still delivering products as promised, so why couldn't Mazda? Most manufactures give 'lower' projection numbers before finalizing. (ex. 350Z advertised as 280+ hp for months until they finalized it at 287, with US dynos to back up that claim)

Either way you look at it, this is a PR nightmare situation for execs at Mazda USA. I hope some people get fired for this mix up. This is not the way to bring back the rotary.

i believe your first post of this magazine clipping is in the Aftermarket Section.

yeah, Mazda Japan hasn't re-evaluated their estimation of the RX-8's power, and it's something like 0.93 hp / ps.

the increase in low rpm power can come from a strictly less restrictive (meaning it actually has less back pressure) exhaust system, without doing something stupid like going up to a 3" inner diameter tubing (which really hinders efficiency for an engine of this level of tune) as most ricey/"overly serious" exhaust systems do.

Also SM, i don't want to see this get off topic into another American HP thread.

Don't forget, it's only a PR nightmare to enthusiats/HP weenies; to perhaps 95% of potential RX-8 buyers it won't matter one whit.
