I cut out as much as I could still leaving a bit of the curved lip for stength. The screen I oversized to allow a gap between it and the vents to prevent loss of airflow from debris and to absorb rocks or anything else from the tire. And it turns out it looks cool lol. My weapon of choice was an angle grinder with cut off wheel.
