Unhappy Driver's Seat Issue - Ouch!

Morning. Does anyone else have an issue with the driver's seat 'jabbing' into your "butt" on the left side? I.e. when you sit down in the driver's seat, the left and right side of your butt 'rest' against the sides of the seat. On the left side of my driver's seat, as I sit in it, I feel the plastic support (I'm guessing that's what it is) of the seat sticking into me. It's as if there isn't quite enough cushion there, and as you sit in the seat fully, you depress the small amount of cushion that is below the leather, and you are basically siting right in this uncomfortable plastic bar that runs form the front to the back of the seat on each side. I have to shift-right in the seat (ackward) so I'm just to the right of it with my left-side in order to not feel the bar. Nevermind when I hit an off-ramp at 45mph...that jabs me even more!

I'm 6'2" about 240lb.... not overweight by any stretch - just a big guy . It's like I was to cut open the seat and add a bunch of cottom ***** or something in between the leather and the plastic bar so I don't feel it when I'm sitting down.

Anyone else having this issue? It is very uncomfortable and could make a long trip no fun at all.

Thanks.

I have found the spot you mention -- I just center myself more in seat when it becomes bothersome.

There was some other threads about this a few months ago, not sure what anyone did to help with it. You might try a search.

I'm 6'1" and 196 but my waist is a 34-35. I fit perfectly in the seat, but I can see if you have a 36" waist or bigger you'd start running out of room.

If you have the headroom, raise the seat a bit, It seems to help, as that area changes shape with the seat height, and Lumbar support position

I have the same issue at 240 lbs and I have to raise the seat 2 notches on the lever. I wanted the leather seats but didn't want the moonroof cause there was less headroom with it.

havent had anything like this happen to me, but i am 6'-1" and 140 pounds....sooooo, as you can see, my butt doesnt even touch the outer parts of the seat and i probably dont weigh enough to push the cushion down enough to find it!!

Have noticed the padding at the side of the seats is not very good from day one. It sometimes looks a bit slack, but so far no problems with comfort.

Just make your butt smaller lose 10 -15lbs and see if you fit okay. I'm 5'10" 170lbs and fit fine.

THat won't work SUperfan - not too much too much weight to really loose in the butt.....the belly however, that is a difference story....

Me too. My size 42 American butt doesn't fit the size 28 Japanese seat. Love everything else about the car though. Guess I'll have to live with it or lose weight.... Nah, I'll just have to live with it!

"Musclecarconvert" - I'm with you - I'm a sizxe 38 or 40 - depending on the clothes - but not "fat" per say......but my friggen lef *** cheek sits on top of the hard-part of the seat...it feels like a huge piece of plastic....but I really don't feel it on the right side. I'm thinking of bringing the car to someone and having a 'custom repair' done to it to slice out some of that plastic and add more "cushy" filling....wonder how that will work?

Other then that - LOVE the car..

Same problem - at 6'2" and 255 lbs (body builder) couldn't get the sun room due to height considerations, and have to have the seat at its lowest point as not to rub my head on the roof. The plastic peice pokes me in the **** as well. I love how these little men always have some snyd comment about how everything fits them just fine. I wouldn't trade places with you for anything!

Yes, my **** hurts on the left if I do not position myself correctly in the seat. I am a big guy, 6 ft. and almost 300 lbs. Most of my weight is above my waist, though, as I come from a clan of buttless men. :D My wife can't get over that I have no butt and laughs at me all the time...well, almost always. :D Whenever I get the seat positioned just right some one comes along and changes the settings and I have to work at getting it right feeling again. I hate service people who cannot leave thedir hands off of seat positioning devices and I climb in and have to squeeze the seat back. Most of my height is in my torso as my inseam is only 29-30"s. My waist is 42. I'm built like an old wrestler and agile like one too.

Holy crap guys - you just described me perfectly! I drove 500 miles this weekend in the RX-8 and loved EVERY minute of it - except for the left side of my ****!! I am going to bring the car into a custom shop and have them cut-out the plastic **** on the left side of the seat and put in LOTS of extra cushion! !!

What about just putting in some type of large (say 2 feet by two feet) throw pillow. Maybe about 2 inches thick. That should work to soften out the effects of the bolster.

Another thread - same subject

I thought I would add the pointer to the thread I started on the same subject. Unfortunately, no great solutions - yet.

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=26969

It seems to me that there is a more general problem here - If the vehicle does not have pistons, my fanny doesn't fit in the seat - I.E. 727, 767, 757, and now RX8.

Yours,
Jason
