Still using synthetic, nycgps?

Now, no problems at all with AC on.
Just curious nycgps ... it's going on 2.5 years after this post, are you still using synthetic (assuming your 8's still "alive", which I hope is true)? If so, any issues?

I asked ModernMotors Mazda in Thomaston Connecticut, I work for a Ford dealership near by and i know all the techs and service managers there. I bought my 04 rx8 used and i put in synthetic oil Mobil1 in there since i got it. Then i took it to modern to get my ecu reflashed and my regular checkups on the car and i told them that i was running synthetic. The service advisor looked a little upset when i told him. He said i should only use regular oil and not synthetic because this motor is designed to burn oil. I need to use premium gas but regular oil. But now that everyone is saying that they use premix and stuff like that idk. The service advisor did say that I could've ruined my engine in the long run by using synthetic. I didn't argue with him, simply because he would know more than most people.

White residue is from condensation on the inside of the oil pan and dipstick etc. It happens to all 8's in the cold weather. Happened to mine when I lived in Philly and used regular dino oil.

It doesn't happen to me anymore but that is because I moved to a warmer climate, not because I switched to synthetic.

More info than you can shake a dipstick at:

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...light=dipstick

But it's not a synthetic oil issue.

ROFL !!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL !!!!!

They should really FIRED THAT *** @ the dealership !

Those white stuff on dipstick came from condensation, not because of Synthetic Oil

He is either a clueless moron(the dealership dude), or he just just told u a big freaking lie.

Make him put his words in writing on a piece of paper with his dealership info on it, then send it over to any Synthetic oil company so they will sue their ***. LOL

Seriously, print the TSB out, bring it to the dealership and ask the manager there to fired his ***.

Idemitsu makes Motor oil and Premix, they're quite expensive, just like all JDM stuff.

and u cant get that Synthetic oil in America, Mazda USA never import them. You can get them if u're in Japan easily tho (just walk into any dealership and err err err some broken japanese out with the print out of the picture)

I know it is OFF Topic a little, but I have just found out that there is a different and Larger Oil Filter on Series II RX-8's.

I have physically compared the two and the 09 RX-8 filter is 25% larger. It has the same face or screw on mounting plate, but the oil filter body is longer by about 25%.

I checked the Mazda Part Number on a US Dealers Parts Website and they don't stock it?.

I hope US and any Dealer is not using the smaller oil filter on Series II's during a service.

Here is the New Genuine Mazda Oil Filter Part # N3R1-14-302

I imagine you can use the same filter which is used on the V-6 MX6 model. Mazda maintains the same thread pattern and outside diameter for their oil filters. I run the MX6 filter which is about twice the size of the normal 2005 RX8 filter. It's a snug fit but it works great!

I've been using K&N filters as I feel they are a quality brand but also have a 1 inch socket end on top so I can get at it with a rachet if I need to.

I think they're using the longer version now. ITs the same size as my Honda's FIT filter and in K&N part number is HP-1010.

It works with the older 8 too. I used to use it until I have that Oil filter sandwich in place.

Well, I've been doing a lot of digging here and else where, then went to the amsoil site and ask them. This was their response..."

Raven;

In the early years of Mazda rotary engines, there were races between them. AMSOIL, Inc. was one of the primary sponsors. We have a long history of using our engine oils in the Rotary engine. Contrary to some concerns voiced by others, our product is completely compatible with the rotor seals (and all other components).

Thank you for this opportunity to respond to your question(s). As always, please feel free to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

"

BUT...if you go to the Amsoil site and use product advisor for the RX-8, it breaks down each product to use and so forth. And under the oil section it lists their 5w-20 synth oil, but with this printed beneath it....

"1. Do not use either synthetic or semi-synthetic motor oil.
Otherwise engine starting performance could worsen."

Link - http://www.amsoil.com/scripts/runisa...msoiloaf:index

So WTF?

I just ordered trans and diff fluid from them. I was considering motor oil, but I keep going back and forth.

Throughout every post I've read, I haven't read anyone with a negative experience with Synth oil, only speculation of what might happen. Though I have read about better mileage and "seat of pants" improvements through faster whirl times. Am I wrong? I'm a new (new to me) RX8 owner and haven't had my first oil change yet. It's part of my total tune up after seafoam treatment, coils, wires, & plugs.

Because Mazda doesn't recommend synthetic oil, other oil manufacturers are afraid to recommend their full synthetic products for it as a future engine failure could be blamed on their oil and then they'd be on the hook for a new replacement engine, which is not an expense they would like to have. You'd have to sell a lot of oil to cover the cost of one new Renesis so it's better to just be safe in your stated literature. For what it's worth, there's a lot of background here on why specifically Mazda doesn't recommend synthetic oil, and it really has nothing at all to do with how well the synthetics burn.

I haven't quite understood what the argument against synthetic oil for the rotary is (other than Mazda says so).

Equally, I haven't quite understood why a heavier weight oil is considered bad in a rotary.

Can someone explain these items as concisely as possible?

I bought my car used with 12,000 miles on it and have put on another 9k getting the oil changed by the dealer. I am a 4 season driver in Chicago and am looking to find the oil which will protect my engine the most, and won't cause any problems because it doesn't burn off, or work itself around in the cold or whatever other arguments may exist...

I am looking for what to use, but more than that I am looking for explanations of WHY to use it...(why it protects better)

The appropriate weight is dependent on your weather. What are the coldest and warmest air temperatures your car will experience?

Use anything from 0w or 5w30 an over, in example, 0w30, 0w40, 0w50 (only if its always very hot, but I think bangladesh is).

5w30/40 is ok as well.

Use synth or dino oil, if using dino, just change it more religiously.
