Anybody have an idea what's going on?

I started my car up today after work, let it warm up then drove it across the parking lot and down a side road. From a stop sign I went to 4k in 1st, shifted to 2nd and let it wind out to 6k. Suddenly it halted and scared the **** out of me. It felt like when a car hits fuel cut and you nearly smash your forehead off the steering wheel.

I stopped, tested the revs, everything seemed to be fine. Having only a 1 mile drive home, I just continued.

When I got close to town, I went WOT a couple times in 2nd and 3rd. The car hesitated like the clutch was slipping and when I took my foot off the throttle, the rpms went up about 100rpm before they started to drop.

No mods done to the car except a catback exhaust, the cat is stock. Also the car has 112,000KM, It's still the first engine.

forgive me, I had a long night...
Have you checked your cat?
6K rpms is around when the apv(alve) opens. There is a thread on how to test it.
Also, you may have a fuel pump issue.
Check these three areas

Good luck!
