Every other car that I've owned, I've always had this metal flap preventing anything from entering the fuel neck/fuel tank when the gas cap is removed. When I filled up tonight, I noticed that this flap doesn't exist on my RX8. Coincidentally, the automatic pump overfilled my tank enough to leak a good portion down the side of my car.
Am I the only one without this flap?

mine does not have one either. and now my finger smells like gas.

I don't have one either. I was pleased when I went to put in Redline Fuel System Cleaner today. I used to have to wedge something in there on my old BMW.
