gas cap holder
Not sure if this is the right place for this.
Has anyone ever mounted a gas cap holder on the lid? Or maybe this is a factory option and mine was removed for some reason.
Just hate to leave the cap hanging and bouncing of the car. I'm always afraid I'm going to bump it and scratch the car.
Anyone have any ideas? I know other cars have this but not sure how to go about mounting it.

Crap........but it does say not in stock at the moment.
But...............when I wanted something else that was out of stock, I either E-mailed them and asked, or order one and it took just a liitle longer to get.

I found some zip ties that have an extra loop sticking out from the end and strapped that to the lid's internal framework. I cut off all the extra strap and viola. It works great and costs pennies.

Try a hook. I bent one out of a paper clip. Slides right onto the fuel door's inner sheet metal. I went first class and used a coated clip, so it would not scratch the paint. Yeah, the coated clips cost more, but nothing is too good for Zoomy.
Images show the hook installed, in use, and by itself. In the "by itself" shot, the part that hooks to the door is to the left, the hook for the cap tether is to the right. Looking at it now, I bet I could clip off the rightmost "U" and just twist the middle part out.
I got the idea from Expo1, but his was glued in place. I wanted something removable, lest Mazda tries to void my warranty because of the mod.

Of course thinking about this, you could just get one of those little felt foot things we all have somewhere lying around, you know the oval ones with the sticky stuff/tape on one side and stick it on the side of the cap where it noramlly rest against the car. Maybe we should do a DIY????

In these days of pump it yourself, that works.
In the old days of pump jockeys, I used to lose the original cap within a couple of years. I'd replace it with a locking cap. Since the key would be with the cap, it made it hard to drive off if the kid left everything on top of the pump.
Once had a gas jockey on the NJTP make me come out and do the cap myself. He said that he did not do locking caps. There was a note to his voice that told me there was an ugly story behind it. He still pumped, while I stood to the side and held the cap.

Not sure if your kidding but I will play along. That is a .50 item you see at Staples. Wal-mart, Home Depot Put a little Krazy Glue and it will be on forever, or at least since 8/2005. The note by the way only works 75% of the time. I buy gas twice a week so I am not going to argue with a gas pumper over it.

Shortly after my first tank of gas I made this. I used a picture frame hook, shortened about a quarter of an inch and crimped around the strap. Then a piece of heat shrink tubing on the end.
