I guess this warranty on the engine is now obsolete for the 04's now. That's a shame, I just bought an 04 and I don't think it has had the motor replaced before.

Thanks for the update.

It's 8 years from original purchase date. Some 04s were sold in 05... find out yours. Any case, did you get a compression test before purchase?

2004s were first open for sale in 2003, so many 2004s have had it up for a while now. Some 2004s may still have it. My 2005 wasn't sold until Sept 2006, so if I was still under 100k (I'm not), then it would be fine till Sept 2014.

Getting your first sold date is the key point.

Actually it's from the vehicles "in-service" date which may or may not be the same as the "purchase date."

Went to the dealer today and as it turns out, the motor has been replaced. It has about 40k on it. Car has 98k on it. Runs perfectly.

so when it hits 100k miles mazda will drop in a rebuild engine for free??

My 04 doesn't run out till next month. But I already got a warranty engine last summer. And a cat
