5W30 Oil

Will 5W30 oil hurt my motor in my RX8? I just noticed that that's what the tire place put in my car. Any help appreciated.

No, 5w30 will not hurt your 8.

The only difference between 0w20, 0w30, 5w20, 5w30, 10w40, 20w50, etc... is how thick the oil is when cold and when hot. 5w30 is recommended for the rest of the world outside of the US, 5w20 within the US, and Mazda has never made a single weight of oil a requirement.

How thick of an oil to use is the subject of massive debate on here that probably will never be solved.

Your fine.

Do some searching and you'll see it is a better choice, among choices.

I use Castrol GTX 5w30 year round here in the northeast. Better than Mazda's 'recommended' 5w20 imho, so they did you a favor.

You may optimally want to go with 10w40 in Virginia in the Summer.
