still doing some research.

i think i'm gonna go ahead and upgrade to the 3071R right off the start. it will probably take a while for me to get all the parts. i'll post updates as the parts come in. i might go ahead and order the BOV so i can get the flange and recirc fitting welded, then off to powdercoating. going with gloss black on all the charge piping and ceramic coating on the exhaust manifold and downpipe.

well so far i've ordered all the silicone couplers and T-bolt clamps, some aluminum elbow tubing for the intake, Agency Power silicone radiator hoses, and Hawk ceramic brake pads.

next up on the agenda will be a Synapse Synchronic BOV and my blow through MAF tube. i plan on getting some 3.5" OD aluminum tubing 12" long with a MAF flange welded in the middle. next month i should start ordering the Garrett turbo and accessories for it(hopefully).

what do you guys recommend for gauges? i'm thinking a Lotek with essentials(oil temp/press and water temp) and maybe a 2 gauge pillar pod with boost and ???? i'm going to be using the Cobb AP so i don't really need an A/F gauge. i was thinking maybe EGT.

You're doing the GT3071R upgrade yourself? Pretty ambitious.

Just be aware you need to clock the turbine housing and move it's position, weld new flanges on the manifold and downpipe, and a new compressor discharge section. As well as coolant feed and return hoses, and new oil feed and return lines (the GReddy oil hoses will not work with the Garrett snail). Oh yeah, you'll also need a new turbo intake pipe, but that's pretty easy.

If you have a boost controller mounted in a visible location you don't need a boost gauge, especially if you're boost controller has a large screen/display like the GReddy E-01, HKS EVC, TurboSmart E-Boost, etc. I kinda regret getting my boost gauge since I usually just look at the boost controller anyways.

hmm i wasn't aware of some of that. why would i need new flanges? they are the same style flanges as the greddy. clocking shouldn't be that big of a deal as well as new oil and water lines. i've been looking at MM's upgrade website researching the installation.

here is the turbo i plan on getting. it's the same one Jeff is using. it has a 2.75" inlet and 2" discharge. i got a 2.5"-2.75" reducer and will use a piece of 2.5" OD tubing for the inlet. for the discharge i'll be using a 135 degree 2" coupler. i will also need the actuator assembly and a bracket.

i'd also like to add i've been talking with CRH about the CAI. looks like he will be making me a MAF tube. not sure if he's gonna start producing them but he's probably thinking about it.

that turbine housing will work. may need to enlarge the holes on the greddy downpipe since they don't appear to match up. (at least not on mine)

it'll also get a lil more complicated once you're staring at the parts in your hand as clearance may be an issue with the compressor housing. on MM's upgrade, the added flange gives the turbo extra clearance.

nevertheless, good luck with the install man.

thanks. i will be mocking it up before the install so hopefully it works out. if not, just more $ i'll have to shell out for more parts. i'm really in no hurry. i just want to make sure i have everything i need to make it work without too many complications.

No, the actual position of the turbo needs to be relocated slightly otherwise the turbine housing will hit the firewall and the compressor housing will hit the manifold.

Jeff also has to have a section of the back of the compressor housing machined down to clear the manifold.

The downpipe flange needs to be slightly rotated and the holes enlarged. But since the turbo is now in a different position than the GReddy, the downpipe won't match up with the midpipe unless you weld new flanged on the downpipe as well.

It's a lot more work than what appears on the surface.

well i've got a Mazmart water pump, Mazmart second oil cooler, Greddy oil pan, and a rear sway bar on the way. at the rate i'm going i should have no cooling problems whatsoever.

thanks for all your advice Chickenwafer. looks like i will try to get the turbo from Jeff. i don't think he ventures to this part of the forum too much.

for a used kit, the hardware seems in good shape.

I spent a good amount of time polishing up the piping with a buffer. Later I had them powder coated.
