Turbo chargeing or shupercharger? And a transmisson swap

Hi,

Im new the Rotory engine, but i have been wondering what would take better to the engine Turbo or Blower?

i have heard good things about both and bad things about both, but i dont know if i can trust the info from people who dont work/own a Rotory.

How much PSI can a 13b hold? some say 5PSI other say 11PSi and some people "who i think are carzy on a stock engine" 22PSI. i have seen these with holes in the rotor housing, due to bad tuning and Overboost. what is safe, and what is just a bad idea?

I have heard that small turbos work well but run out of breath mid way throw the R's. Others say go big, but that would lead to mass turbo lag and all high end power. what is a good sized turbo for this engine?

I have heard that the Petit blower is all low end. I dont want a drag car, im more into the turns on a winding road.

i was also wondering if a Miata 6spd Trans swap would work. the forks are bigger and they are more reliable. I have seen the forks and Collars of these transmissions, its no wonder they fail, everthing is made to be so light and slim. NOT THAT IM BASHING ON THE RX line, im just sayin they made the trans a weak point in this car.

Thank you for your input

Jim

LOL, hopefully not to many people see this thread(just kidding) Here we go....
How much are you willing to spend first because if you are not well informed yet about this process then there are so many threads on this matter and quality ones as well and some are full of BS.

What do you want to do with the car?

yeah, I know but I would not want to say something that would contribute to hurting the club in general. He can most certainly find plenty of information on almost anything for the Rx8 on this forum.

For starters I would recommend reading the threads about this issue conveniently located in this same part of the forum. I've also found that search works reasonably well returning threads of interest. You may find the search button located in the upper right portion of your browser screen.

Beyond that there are a few issues with your questions. First of all, nobody can say what "PSI a 13B can hold". PSI doesn't mean anything, because the PSI of different setups flow differently. 9 PSI on a stock GReddy turbo will not produce the same flow as 9 PSI on a 3071R. Also when referring to the RX-8 motor you should probably specify Renesis not 13B, as most people think of the 13B-REW when you say 13B which is the motor for the RX-7.

Depending on what you use the car for, the most optimal choice for you will be different. There are benefits and disadvantages to every form of FI, but what they all have in common is they all cost a good amount of money. You should not even consider going FI without doing a lot more research. It is an incredibly time consuming, expensive and often frustrating process, but if you are willing to put in the effort the payoff is significant.

It is pretty easy to hit 300+ whp and 250+ torque with a good turbocharger setup and depending on how careful your tune is, and how risky you feel its possible to get over 400 whp with the stock motor. You are going to get a lot of different opinions from people about going with a supercharger or turbocharger, but unless you have the option to ride in both and make a decision that way, you are pretty much left with dyno data and personal opinions. Turbo guys will tell you they prefer turbos, otherwise we wouldn't have them, and SC guys will say SC... there is no one right answer. Get educated and make your own decision.

Go with a SC. You get massive torque and NOS down low.

/me grumbles about jackasses. This has got to be a troll.

everyone knows superchargers produce more torque, especially in lower rpm's

I still love this quote by blackenedwings: "If people can't be bothered to SEARCH for the information in sticky threads in this very forum then they have no business modifying their engine"

LOL Black I need to find your original posting of that and put it in my sig, I use it too much now

2nd gear in the Miata trans won't be around any longer than the RX-8 trans, plus I seem to recall that the tailshaft housings are a different length or configuration (?)

i have seached this forum for info, but there is so much its hard for me to find the exact info i want. so i just figured that it would be ezer to just ask.

as on price i was hopeing for something less then $10,000, for a reliable system.

and for what im lookin for a fun street and track car.

2nd gear? in my RX 2nd, 3rd and 4th have not lasted long. they where just replaced under warrenty. wonder if they make a converson kit for the output shaft. I the resone i am asking about the miata is because i haerd a rumor that the 2010 RX8 is using that trans now.
