I imagine it'll be worse since there's more air coming in but the same exhaust restriction.

so you removed the multiple 90° bends in the side ports?

Then you didn't really remove any restriction (besides the cat) in the exhaust path.
With a stock renesis all a different exhaust diameter does is change the power curve, any gain under a determined rpm range is a loss almost as big somewhere else

The issue with the renesis is that the side port exhaust really don't flow enough gas out. Even when you open them up a little its still very restrictive.

At least thats what the general consensus is.

As with all things rotary there's never been any significant testing to prove this theory.

You don't really need any specific testing, just a very well build 13b with peripheral exhaust ports is enough to show it.

No one has ever tested the flow...

There has to be a way to test the cfm before and after. I will get before and after results. I have know idea where or who to go to for the test tho. I had it done on my heads but this is no were near the same. Would even get volume results.

Any body ever thought to see how many degrees each port on the renesis is? By port degrees i mean port timing.

Update...

Haven't been doing much lately because of work (26 hours in the last 2 days).

This is what I have so far.

Picked up a 2 ton hoist for $80 from FB of all places.

Got a used 12LB Exedy one peace flywheel for $88. I wanted this one as it is one peace, no worries that the gear ring will separate.

Gold plated battery terminals with different size gauge holes ($16). For when the battery goes in the trunk.

Oil catch can to catch oil lol.

Right now me and my buddy are pulling the motor and trans. Will take pics...

this is an assumption on your part. finding what temp is optimum will require a bunch of testing.

Will be checking that out after this.
i used carbon seals in my peripheral port engine, and its a great example of some of the issues you have in this build, so far.

carbon seals are very light, so they seal better @high rpm, than the iron seals, however they wear much faster, and are more brittle, so any detonation = dead engine. detonation is actually a small worry on a high HP NA.

Mazda used carbon seals in every engine from the beginning until 1974, when they switched to iron, because it lasts longer.

so you need to pick the right seal for the application.

so you need to pick the application, street? track? drags?

for the rest of the engine, like bearings and things Mazda is the ONLY company that manufactures anything, so aftermarket bearings don't exist.

Why would you bother pulling the tranny, if your just rebuilding the engine.

I can understand wanting to take the driveshaft out so that it doesn't drop when the trans gets pulled.

Why he pulled the trans is beyond me though...

I'm going to enjoy watching his posts about mounting the engine up to the engine stand.
