You only get the benefits of the cooling effect if you are running straight E85.

Yeah, I would be interested in that. But from what I've seen here in the states a 55gal drum of methanol is expensive, unfortunately...

Slash, try to check with the bio diesel equipment suppliers, they usually have their ways and will be able to provide better prices
Methanol can also be found in the tracks being the ultimate race fuel anyway.
I am sure the resources are way better over on your side . Everything is double price here lol

Thanks man. I'll keep looking into options. I might troll at the track when it opens and see what others are doing. There are quite a few cars that have been running E85 around here. I'm sure they will be digging into alternatives. There was even a lot of talk about going in on a co-op station. I wouldn't hold my breath at this point

Look hard slash, I use to buy methanol for less than 2 bucks a gallon when most people were paying more like 4. It was from a place that supplies fuel to gas stations and fuel docks. I'd roll up in an old *** busted up El Camino with a 200 gallon tote tank and they'd fill it up. Poor El camino.

Gaubert oil company Thibodeaux la. I know your no where near them, but Give them a call just to see what the price is.

I haven't totally given up. Just bummed that the convenient source is gone... I will see about giving them a call. Thanks!

Some info on my ignition since I've been back on gas now that E50 is no longer a local option. Previously I was running NGK 5255's in the leading and 6701's in the trailing gapped down to 0.025" because I started getting misfires at higher boost, over 15psi. I found a bad trailing coil which resolved that. Further reducing the gap to 0.020" resolved the misfires at first until the coil went completely out. With all good tested coils I decided to give the 5255's another try in the trailing and no misfires up to 13psi so far. Something good I am noticing with the 5255's all around is I'm not seeing timing pulled where I previously did with the 6701's. I don't know if that thin strap was getting hot or maybe gap too small but seems to be an improvement so far. I'm thinking a smaller gap might also be harder on the coils too. I'm slowly working up my nerve to turn boost back up on gas

Careful Slash, gas dont have the same cooling effect. Im sure you know this but i was concerned and it compelled me to speak up.

Why not sit at 13 for a while and let me catch up

Oh I know that's why I'm so bummed about going back to gas. But I ran 17psi on 92 for nearly a year, so it's not foreign territory. More of a once bitten twice shy kinda thing...

I know I did mention that before but Xylene/ Toluene are still on the table mate they will bump your octane so high and xylene might be more accessible
Best of luck matey

Slash , Just in case if you are interested , I've collected this from RX7 forums

Formula #1 - Toulene
for 12-16 ounces, when
R+M/2.........114
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...........94.2 Octane
20%...........96.4 Octane
30%...........98.6 Octane
Notes: Common ingredient in Octane Boosters in a can. 12-16 ounces will
only raise octane 2-3 *points*, i.e. from 92 to 92.3. often it can be purchased
chemical supply houses or paint stores.

Formula #2 - Xylene
R+M/2.........117
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...........94.5 Octane
20%...........97.0 Octane
30%...........99.5 Octane
Notes: Similar to Toulene. 12-16 ounces will only raise octane 2-3
*points*, i.e. from 92 to 92.3. Usually mixed with Toulene and
advertised as *race formula*.

Formula #3 - Methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether (MTBE)
R+M/2.........118
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...........94.6 Octane
20%...........97.2 Octane
30%...........99.8 Octane
Notes: Oxygenate. Very common in octane booster products. Has lower BTU
content than toulene or xylene, but oxygenate effect makes the gasoline
burn better and produce more energy.

Formula #4 - Methanol or Ethanol
R+M/2.........101
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...........94.3 Octane (Methanol)
10%...........94.7 Octane (Ethanol)
20%...........Not Recommended
Notes: Methanol is wood alcohol. Ethanol is grain alcohol and found in
Gasohol in 10% ratios. Both alcohols are mildly corrosive and will eat
gas tank linings, rubber and aluminum if used in excessive ratios. Main
ingredient in "Gas Dryers", combine with water.

Formula #5 -
Isopropyl Alcohol and Tertiary Butyl Alcohol
R+M/2.........101
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...........94.5 Octane
20%...........Not Recommended
30%...........Not Recommended
Notes: Similar to Methanol/Ethanol. Isopropyl Alcohol is simply rubbing
alcohol. Sample Mixture To make your own octane booster, it is easiest
to make up a large batch, and then bottle it up in "dosage-size" uses.

Below is the basic formula of one of the popular octane booster products.
To make eight 16 ounce bottles (128 oz = 1 gal):
100 oz of toulene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of 2 stroke in case of ( Toluene or Xylene) or Alcohol fuel Lubricant in case of methanol/ethanol (lubricating agent) some also might like to use transmission fluid , however i think in rotary engines the friction modifiers could have somewhat an ill effect
Diesel fuel or kerosene can be substituted for
mineral spirits and light turbine oil can be substituted for
transmission fluid.
Color can be added with petroleum dyes.

So, thinking a little bit about E10. Back to that research doc. They used a base fuel with a (R+M)/2 octane rating of 86.8. Adding 10% ethanol to that they showed an increase to 90.5, an increase of 3.7. Now consider our previous discussion about what is at the pumps, specifically displayed octane rating being the base fuel, not after adding 10% ethanol. So if the base fuel is 92 octane and then 10% ethanol is added it seems plausible that the actual octane rating might be around 95.7.... Could be why I've gotten away with things that seem taboo otherwise

Research numbers are the prevailing features in most cases bar the unlucky times were folks end up with a bad batch of fuel.
Methanol/Ethanol's cooling features are what makes most of the benefits even at lower % but that's just my opinion.

Have you noticed any corrosion in the system if I recall you went as far as e50 which is pretty high content

The pumps here are labeled (R+M)/2. Agreed that the cooling effect is a benefit.

Correct I ran several tanks of E50 since mid-December until last week when it was discontinued, so about 3 months. I have not noticed any corrosion but I haven't really looked either.
