I am really looking forward to additional information on the updated kit offered and the different turbo options (including all the dynos you can scrounge up).

I was following WantedTwo's thread very closely but he seems to have not made any progress for some time. I'm extremely pleased to see the AP-friendly piping pop up as the new standard for your kit and not just fade away as some one-off project that may or may not have worked.

Great work guys -- consider me very interested.

It should show an improvement with any kit if it is designed right

We will offer the kit either way! So people have options. You can un it as a drraw through for use with Cobb or as a blow through for use with Interceptor-X.

TurboTim,

I've seen your work around Socal many many times. Very good quality welds. I'm in the process of building my turbo kit, but your kit really shines!

It's honestly the Cobb AP compatibility that sold me. Do you guys have any installed w/ the Cobb AP revision on any cars within the Socal area?

I would really like to check them out. I was originally going to source the whole Greddy-BNR etc. upgrade....but this looks much more appealing to me.

Hey Tim!

Did you ever figure out why "WantedTwo" was having problems with your kit? Apparently "Derex'8" had the same issues with fittement.

Oil return adaptor for oil pan
BOV gasket and set screws
V-Band clamps for down pipes
Water cooling taps for turbo
Coolant pipe couplers
MAF screws

As for the problems, I had the entire hot side and pipes ceramic coated by SFR, I'm guessing they didn't do a test fit to make sure everything was still ok because I can not get the slip joint to slip together. The other problem is the SS lower coolant hose replacement is not even in the same ballpark as far as fit. It is a good four inches off. I'm not worried about it as SFR has been absolutely top notch with support I have no doubts these problems will be taken care of with the quickness!

Yes we took care of those thigns we forgot to send.As far as the water hardline we supply to replace a section of the rubber line that comes stock. Some people try to install that backwards and it doesnt fit backwards. The slip joint is always hard to get together afer you ceramic coat it, LOL. Normally it gets taped off but it must have not been done by the coaters.

Tim,

Do you guys have a running demo car at the shop? I would really like to see this kit in person since it really seems like you guys have it on the money with the Cobb AP compatibility.

Ahh.....

I guess I'll have to do some snooping around to see more of the owners' build threads. Thank you for the prompt response.

All of them. Been there, done that.

The SFR kit is awesome. I remember seeing it (IIRC) at SEMA in 2004.

Tim from SFR has mentioned that there are many ways to go about this kind of build.

Yeah I got that... Was just wishing it was that way two months ago... When I could afford it the only engine management offered 2 months ago on the web site was the int-x... Which I was unwilling to do... Would much rather use a Cobb...

How accurate will the pre-tuned maps be that come supplied with the Cobb AP kit?

Do y'all recommend additional tuning or are they going to be considered safe enough for people to just run with it out-of-the-box?

Will they be locked or can we have another tuner tweak the AP maps?

I asked similar questions earlier today and waiting to hear back. Tim did say the maps were locked.

Interested in this answer very interested. Im not worried about the base map so much but would like to know what psi it runs at and who they would recommend for further tuning after the kit is together. Out of the box tuning im sure is very safe which obviously isnt bad because who wants to run unsafe maps but I would like to know the options for further tuning.

Ugh. I understand locking the maps to keep from having turbo maps floating all around the internet, but that makes it somewhat less attractive to me since I would have to map from scratch if I wanted to tune anything on my own car (obviously a different platform than the test car).

Mayhaps it's time for Baseline :D

Less attractive? Why??

I'm sure its a base map just to get the car going so you can take it to your actual tuner. You will have to start over anyway. Its not possible to have a preloaded map work perfectly for every car. Nobody uses the base map for long anyways. There isn't much performance in a base map.

And I wouldn't plan to work from a base map for long, but not having a boosted starting point to work from is lsightly less attractive, that's all I'm saying.

I would have to map from scratch, not a huge deal but having PTPs "suggested" baseline would be a little more attractive to me.

I hear ya. Just start with Cobb's stock style map and tweak it I guess once you actually start tuning. But stay out of positive manifold pressure lol

The maps will be locked. The problem is you need to be an authorized Cobb tuner to actually tune the AP.So the end user will not be able to tune their AP.They willneed to take it to a Cobb Tuner. However,we will try to gather a collection for different maps so we can send out a goiod basemap as a starting point. This will allow you to get the car up and running quickly and just drive it to a Cobb tuner for the final tune.

Well, no. That's not true.
The software is free, so anyone can (theoretically) tune their own AP.

SpeedForce Racing isn't an "authorized" Cobb Tuner, yet you are offering the service.

We are working with an authorized tuner who buys a ton of our turbo kits every year When I called Cobb they said that we had to be authorized to tune it.Maybe the guy was just telling me that so I would do the dealer buy in? Ill send you a pm when I get a second and maybe we can work something out since you are the Mazda Maniac!
