I was just looking at this map for the 60-1 again and then compared it to the 3071r and realised this BNR upgrade may actually be a better turbo for the job than the 3071 . That is in the boost range that most of us are running < 14psi
Note at 12psi and 42lbs per min the 3071r is on the edge of its efficiency map whereas the 60-1 is well inside it .....

Yeah we had already talked about that Brettus - on the compressor side the 60-1 looks better.

Was that in the 'turbo efficiency' thread ? I didn't realise what BNR was offering was quite as good as it seems to be from the map ....

It may have been... I forget.

But yeah - if the turbine side doesn't create back-pressure or boost fall off - then the BNR is about the best street option you can get for this motor.

Brian : I have a picture of my turbo below and was wondering if you would look at it and have a guess at what it might be .It may even be one you did yourself way back as it has been through a few sets of hands before i got it .
It is definately not the 60-1 as that has 7 blades vs 6 on mine . And i'm pretty sure it isn't the 20g as that has a 52.6 inducer (2mm larger than stock 18g) and mine looks to be more like 57-58mm inducer (just from looking at the pics i have and comparing with your turbo at 59.5mm) .

From reading around and looking at specs etc I now think it might be a T04e 60 trim - is that possible ?

Also : if that is what it is , what clip would you recommend for the turbine ,and can you give me any idea what to tell the machinist ? I have had all sorts of trouble getting boost control on this thing .
Im currently running 15psi boost at the turbo and 11psi at the uim with this and I'm pretty sure it is maxed out - will clipping the turbine give me less backpressure for the same boost or will it just make it easier to control the wastegate ?

My first one lasted 16,000miles and the 2nd one was used so I cant say how many miles it had on it before it let go. I put about 5,000miles on it.

Brettus,

That is a 57 trim comrpessor wheel. It is for high pressure applications. Not a real good high volume, low pressure map that you are looking for. Wankels don't like those wheels at all. They spool up really fast and you see boost really fast, but the car just won't go anywhere... I can fit a 60-1 in that housing even if it has been reworked prior. I have a new turbine wheel that has lesser blates that is more open to prevent back pressure issues and it also has a factory clip to it.

Turborx8,

Did I just recieve your turbo? Boy that thing is dead!

!
Thanks Brian
I found the map for it and can see what you are saying . Bummer for me
Although it is now pushing about 320-325hp (based on dyno + increased air flow since then) - is there any chance it might be the T04e 60 trim ?

If the inducer measurement is 57mm it is a 57 trim. The 60 trim is 60mm inducer. They are both based off the same casting. I have see the 60 trim make 350 RWHP on a FD, but that is squeezing the guts out of it. The 60-1 is just a 50-60 RWHP gain over the 60 trim. Thats the difference between 52 lb/min air flow vs. 58 lb/min (60-1).

I think it is the same turbo as mine - just from comparing photos and approx. size of inducer (58mm) . Say hello to 320-330whp
And I'm thinking mine is the T04e 60trim .

05rx8,

That compressor wheel is a T04B H3 that is machined to fit the TD06 shaft. It is a good compressor but maximum output is around 330 RWHP and runs out of flow on the RX7 at 14 psi. It is a good wheel. Very linear on the power. Will not flow what a 60-1 will, but will do the job.

I am at vacation now and won't return till the 3rd or 4th of August. At that time I will be 2 weeks back on work. I have parts for 4 upgrades that should be there when I get back.

I took off the turbo kit actually a few months ago to sell it, which didn't happen
I am actually reinstalling everything now...lol
just gotta finish installing the piping and water/meth kit
I just always wondered wtf I had since I've never seen a flow map or had much info to go by other than what fluid said

Checked that thread and no numbers there - where did you post the dyno ?

And WTF were you thinking when yopu took it off and put it back on again LOL
