4 seonds a lap less on a road course (2.5-3 miles) is not from increased power alone, better driving, better aero, better car setup. It has to be a combination of all or several of those.

I like the guys over at mazdatrix, they are good at what they do and they race what they sell. I applaud them for that, but they have also been known to stretch the truth and put a positive spin on things in order to increase intrest in their products.

Team has it right. No updates on products from a company almost always means no news or no good news. Not always true but usually.

In regards to the procharger. Maztratrix switched for more then just power and reliabilty. The kit was already expensive to import and with the week american dollar the exchange rate has drasticly chaged in favor of the Australians. Mazdatrix wasnt making any sales at the current price and even if they had sold a kit, they would have only made a small profit. Good business tells you to speak bad of the other guys product and praise your new one.

I believe in time Mazdatrix will produce a strong motor and turbo setup for their race car. They should also have a good kit available for the public, however you also have to take what they say with a grain of salt and until they deliver the goods with data to back it up, I wouldn't get to excited.

I wish them the best. Their success is good for all of us.

IF you take a look at the Mazdatrix website you will see what has been keeping them busy. Turned there 04 into an 09 and then into an 09 widebody.

Doesn't look like they are doing the redline time attack this year.

i say an FI renesis engine with the oem internals (new or not) will not last long on a road circuit.
it is too fragile. I lost an engine just because a friggin vacuum line popped off. Took maybe 1-2 secs. Only running 6-7psi boost.
And dont talk about "tune" was the cause.
On the street --yep you can run FI and do OK.

I'm thinking about getting a spare motor built for when the time comes.

BTW, what vacuum line? Should have caused you to run rich under boost, or was it for a bypass/surge valve? I installed all silicon lines with zip ties. Most are double zip tied. I cant get mine off without cutting the zip ties and even then they don't like to release.

Well, I can´t agree on this, IIRC you swapped injectors with no change in tune and also mentioned 11s to low 12s AFR - I would´t call these as safe.

Also, what was cause of previous failure?

Don´t give up OD, you just went ahead to fast, over thinked to much things and got frustrated.
Keep it simple, make small steps and it will pay of.

true i did change injectors for a little while when i first placed this engine in, BUT i swapped back to the regular set up long before this track w/e.
The tune I have was for this boost and these injectors etc.
a/f's were normal for me--low 11's (11.1--11.2 basically) at over 5K and more than 50% load, low to mid 12's otherwise.

The vacuum line that popped off was one running from a lim nipple to the ssv tank/solenoid.
I had a zip tie on it and it never has caused any problems before--just happened to let go at the engine side of the one way valve. I heard it and then before I could do anything the devils skip was there. We think it also blew a side seal since there is no compression on any face of the front rotor and the engine blew a quart of oil out the ventilated oil cap. This has also happened to one other FI guy.
The other engine? Best we can guess is bad gas. Caused it to hiccup and broke a corner of the apex at low load and low rpm. I had just filled up.
Maybe its the 2 piece seals? I really dont know.

First - sorry but we don't check this board very often.

The 4+ seconds per lap were ALL the engine. No other changes to the car. Believe me - I was driving. Not only was it much faster on the banking, but it would come out of the corners MUCH better than before. Had we been able to continue, it would have been even better.

The engine was massively overheated -- blame goes pretty much 100% to the driver/owner (me). Don't need to go into the details but the belt had been damaged, then broke, and it was driven too long after that. It is a water pumper -- runs fine as long as we don't put any water in it.

Redline was (still is) in the middle of massive changes. We were not sure what series we wanted to do for 2011. It looks like MotoIQ Pacific Tuner would be the most fun -- it is real road racing for ~30 minutes - better than three laps of Time Attack.

We spent a lot of money in 2010 and the checkbook pretty much said take some time off. We decided to park the RX8 and watch the first two Redline events to see what they were going to be like. Went to the first one at Willow Springs a few weeks ago and I am still undecided.
The RX8 Turbo engine has not been rebuilt yet -- it is still in the car.

If we run the MotoIQ thing, it is 8lbs per hp, so we would be limited to about 375. We were at the limit of the fuel pump and lines at 360. Injectors were also close. Even after a Walbro pump and the tank mods the car would still not pick up gas on the Fontana banking after 7 laps - not enough for a road race. After a tire wall came out and hit me at Infinion in the rain we needed some new front body pieces.

So -- need the engine rebuilt, need a fuel cell, new pump and lines, new front bodywork - the '09 parts are now available (http://www.mazdatrix.com/8newproducts.htm), the steering rack still likes to quit (yes, already did the Mazda fix), probably bigger injectors, etc. Adds up to significant $$ and time.

We are currently getting Kyle Mohan's RX8 car ready for the FormulaD opener at Long Beach on April 8-9, but will probably start on my car soon. It may make the Fontana MotoIQ round on Memorial day, but we will have to see.

That kind of power in a road race changes everything!!
cooling can be done ok but
keep an eye on the temperature at the trans and diff!?

So you will be converting to a return type fuel delivery set up---right? Take steps to cool the fuel rail etc. it getts hotter than some may think.
