It takes man-years of effort to get something like this right. It can be compressed down in time frame if you put more men on it, and spend 1/4 million dollars. And it could still have issues.

I have paid deposits and these units are now in production for those who have paid.

I really need to update my web site. :doh

Cheers,
Hymee.

Glad to hear Hymlee You have done a sweet looking system!
The driveability should be excellent. And if people want more power than approx 295-300 to the wheels then they are a better driver than me. I still havent learned the edge on mine yet (talking on the track).
By the way talk with Cam about temperature control issues--we have it figured out! You may also--havent read everything. Just offering possible help.
Again congrats!

This might sound like s stupid question, but why the jump in power when using ethanol?

Supercharged: 340 HP (on "BP Ultimate" 98 RON PULP Gasoline - Pump fuel)
Supercharged: 360 HP (on E85: 85% Ethanol, 15% ULP - Pump fuel)
I don't know too much about ethanol but l have heard it burns cooler...

Nice figures anyway. Looks like the perfect birthday present for myself!

The jump in power doesn't come from the fuel itself, rather than from more aggressive tuning. I believe that any form of alcohol when used in a motor will have a cooling effect.

Since the AFR for alcohol based fuels is richer than petroleum based fuels, you can stuff more fuel into the cylinder each time, and hence have more energy available to burn. The cooling effect is one aspect. There is also something about ethanol that I think is very suitable for the rotary - is is slower combusting than gasoline, and the combustion pressure lasts longer - I think that is a good thing when you think about the rotary engine's long combustion path.

Here is an interesting thing - Nitromethane - i.e. Top Fuel dragster fuel - has less energy per litre than petrol. BUT, since the AFR is something near 1:1 you can stuff a hell of a lot of it into the combustion chamber and it will combust fully with the available oxygen. That is one reason they make so much power.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Mark,
What kind of dyno pull was that? I mean, where you aiming at top power or it fully represents an ideal daily driver configuration?
If the answer's the latter, would you say that there's room for more power?

Hmm. Does mazda sell the rx8 in Austrailia with a differently specked fuel system than here in the US in order to handle ethanol??

The fuel system will handle the E85 you just wouldn't want to run it all the time on the OEM system. To run E85 all the time you need to run larger injectors and increase the volume of fuel to them by running larger fuel lines. The fuel pump should be changed and the fuel rails should be changed because you need to run a true return system with a fuel pressure regulator. Finally, all aluminum fittings and parts should be anodized to avoid corrosion.

Impressive work, one more time.

Bse50, this isn"t a WHP dyno i think when you look at the stock renesis's result, and Hymee told us in the fluid agressive Section setups were agressive, not the best for a daily used engine in street. The, i guess there's always more power possible, but, this must be close to the limits... I'd say with normal tuning and WHP... 280/290 ? ( originary WHP is around 175 isn't it ? )

Nw, let's count days before we can get it in Europe. please first buyers, leave us some vids, loooooooooooooots of vids.

Hah! Nah, use bacardi 151 and remove your cat. That way you can drink and drive without taking your hands off the wheel

I am sure the kit is capable of more. I think, however, that no-one will be getting a ragged-edge tune unless they are good friends with Hymee.

Being my friend is even more the reason not to give a ragged edge tune!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Consider also that the aforementioned power figures are (correct me if I'm wrong) achieved with an entirely stock engine except for the supercharger itself, associated plumbing, and Hymee's personal tuning. Many other FI kits include ignition and fuel system upgrades or are dyno'ed with a hi-flow/catless midpipe and upgraded cat-back exhaust. Also, since the run was conducted on a stationary engine, the effects of the front-mounted intercooler would not be noticed. As has been noted, the runs were also conducted with pump gas.

Basically, Hymee is getting a LOT out of his system by expertly engineering a relatively small number of key components. With larger injectors, higher-capacity fuel pump, improved ignition system, and upgraded exhaust components, I bet one could get even more power and do it safely.

Any other thoughts?
