The pics above show it mounted how we will run it on the engine dyno, and perhaps in the 808 wagon, but...

When we go to install it in the RX-8, there is an issue or two. From my earlier pictures, you can probably tell there isn't much room behind the blower to bring the intake round between the blower and the firewall. Plus it is a long duct required. So are going to do something "special" if not unique. The blower will sit in the same overall position as the earlier engine bay photos (i.e under then engine cover etc), but it will be facing "back to front". The beauty of this is the throttle body will be now at the front of the blower, and there will be a nice staight path from the CAI and MAF tube to the TB and into the blower!

The "complication" it introduces is that the blower drive is at the rear, not at the front. This means it is necessary to either run the blower off the flywheel () or have a layshaft. So we will have a "long belt" at the front taking the drive from the front pulleys to the layshaft, and then the "baby belt" at the back taking the drive from the other end of the layshaft to the blower.

This not really a new idea, I have seen it used sucessfully on the Chev LS1 PD blowers:

This introduced one other slight design challange, not really an issue with the "roots" style blowers on the LS1. The drive is in the wrong direction!!! So what we are going to do is have a "double sided" long belt at the front, and wrap it round the backside of one of the pulleys Pictures to come, stay tuned!

umm... don't too excited.. I think what he means is that you'll actually get a "pushed into the seat" feeling when you mash on the pedal.
Whereas now, you don't really feel all that much cos the power comes on so gradually / smoothly.
I doubt you'l ever see a renesis give you that sort of torque numbers

No that is not correct

The torque gain exceeds the torque of a stock LS1 V8 but it just keeps on revving

The Hymee car that I went in yesterday is very similar - probably more responsive as there was less lag and the thing just pulled very smoothly and strongly from standing still

It was a much smoother and put the power down beautifully compared to My car which is a VY Holden Clubsport 5.7 litre 6 speed with 265rwKW

The more load you put on it the more it pulled
and it sounds very impressive (love the exhaust note)

They also do this in ALL supercharged drag cars ..And Street / Strip cars have stall converters which put the power curve right in the pocket on launch. ..where the cam or rotary is making most torque/ power

What sort of RPM ? are you talking 2k RPM in 6th...Wouldnt you drop a few cogs a nail it? I know S/C create more power down low(up to 2k RPM ) but its nothing a clutch wouldnt fix ...plus theres another seven thousand RPM for a turbo to shine. :D

I just noticed a mention on another FI thread about the insurance costs. Just to let you know, I rang my insurer before we drove the car for the first time with the compressor installed, to advise them of the mods. They noted that on my policy, and also advised there would not be any extra premium. I even told them the make/brand of the blower just to be a little bit more specific.

any chance of having some type of by-pass system so at cruising conditions the blower would be making 0 boost which would eliminate most of the parasitic losses when you don't need the boost (and help gas milage)?

No, it is an Autorotor, parent company is OPCON. The also make "Lysholm" twin screw compressors, sold in the US under the Whipple brand. Autorotor is sold in the US under the Kenne Bell brand. There is lots of good info on their site about these blowers, and why they are so good. www.kennebell.net

ahh, I got to drive a kenne bell upgraded Mus.tang... very good indeed

definately are quality pieces, i know kenne bell is actually getting support from chrysl.er to figure out their fuel management for their upcomming HEMI kits since their eng.ine management makes ours look like a piece of cake (very overprotective speed density system)

Thanks to their internal compression ratio, high tolerance standards and efficient PTFE sealing, they are much more efficient than the Roots type superchargers (like Eaton's). Their high adiabatic efficiency means they produce less heat during compression, and therefore can get away with not using an intercooler for low boost pressure applications. And at a given drive power, they also can reach higher boost pressure than Roots superchargers.
Mazda used Lysholm compressor on their Miller-cycle engines as this kind of engine needs a highly efficient compressor to give a fuel economy advantage over a standard Otto-cycle engine.

This is more than an estimate: Full boost the instant you crack open the throttle. That is fact. And it stays that way right to the top end. I need to get some graphs from the MAP sensor logging. We just havn't run much boost yet. It will be even better when the kPa / PSI is more. Currently only nudging 140kPa (~4PSI). Just imagine when we put better sized pulleys on her to dial in some real boost !

BTW - in regards to the insurance... I got my updated insurance certificate. It has stated in the modifications section "Auto Rota Compressor". Not too bad since I just read it over the phone to them. Should be "Autorotor". Oh well. That is what is it, the customs documents say so.

I've just read the last 6-7 pages, and I'm blown away. Hymee will you be driving the FI RX8 to the Pre Nat meet at the Regatta on Sunday.
