Hymee,

I've been reading this thread for the better part of a year now and haven't said much to offer support after some initial discussions. However, I wanted to say, I'm very impressed with the job you've all done and look forward to the numbers showing the performance benefit you've acheived. Outstanding job and a very clean installation. Congratulations on a job well done and keep up the good work.

On a side note: ,and I don't mean to create a big turbo/supercharge debate here (but this has been bouncing around in my head for a while), it seems to me that one of the big benefits of using a supercharger over a turbocharger in the rotary engine application is that if bad things happen and you do eat a seal.... you do not wipe out the supercharger in the process. In the turbo, you may get lucky or you may be buying a new hot section for the turbo too.

so what's in that air box if the air filter is sticking out the other way?

looks impressive...... well sit patiently for a full review...

in the meantime, maybe its a good idea to check whether the Motec and airfilter will get wet or not when washing the car.

i have found those two areas gets water sprays/wet after a good car wash... or maybe it just hapened to my car

Not One Greddy user has ever complained about LAG . High compression rotors fixed that

Well, Dave -- we'll all be waiting to see what you have to offer in October. With Hymee's development, another one (maybe 2) s/c cars plus Mazda's own t/c developed car, the Nats will be a great opportunity for comparison

Well, I suppose if you wan't to disengage the clutch while you let the revs and boost build up, that is all OK. Like they do on the turboed drag cars. I don't have a problem with that at all.

What I am talking about is when I am already driving along, at low RPM. When I crack the throttle, she goes full boost instantly. I should post some logs from the Motec to illustrate. In the meantime, if you disengage the drive train from the engine while you wait for some boost to build... (Is that what you meant?)

Guys,

I hear your calls for some dyno numbers. We are working very hard to get to a point where we can go over a set of rollers and test things out.

Lets just remember, we only had this car started for the first time Friday night, drove it for the first time Saturday night. Also, bear in mind that we are developing everything except for the blower itself. So it is a bit different to doing a before Dyno run, slapping on a kit, then doing an after Dyno run.

Also, please keep in mind that we have not geared the blower pulley for heaps of boost at the moment. There are a couple of things we would like to address before we go over some rollers. We have a very methodical way of learning. To go for too much glory to early will only end in tears.

I appreciate everyones patience, and Phil and I are committed to deliver.

I think we all appreciate that type of development into a supercharger kit. We don't need another greddy emanage disaster. Take your time get it put together correctly and you will have more business than you'll know what to do with.

Dude, I'm thinking lots of "options"...

Things like different pulley combos for different boost requirements, intercooling options, injectors, exhaust (headers, high-flow cat etc.). Even the distinct possibility of launch control .

Hey Hymee, Early on in this project you were planning to test an engine to destruction as part of your R&D. Did you ever get around to doing that in the mule or on a test bed? Is there much value in doing something like that now? or can you fairly accurately predict safe boost levels for this motor? I'd imagine the fuel pump/injectors would limit the amount of boost that could safely be applied before physical engine breakages due to high boost become a factor. (assumption there is that no detonation occurs and fueling keeps up with boost until something breaks due to either over boost or rotational forces)

Also the stock PCM would have some form of knock/detonation control right? Would that cut in on the motec and retard timing etc should extreme conditions be encountered that aren't catered for in the modified fuel and ignition mapping, ie a particularly hot/humid day (like in Darwin) ;-) or does the motec override all PCM functions WRT fuelling and ignition timing?

Good questions!

Well, plans and reality don't always meet up. It was a touch over 12 months ago when we first made those plans, and it didn't pan out that way - in regards to the engine dyno and detonating an engine. Not to worry. In a number of respects, what we are now doing has loads of practicality, as it is real world, in the car,
on the black stuff.

In terms of the Knock Retard... The sco has added some capabilities into our "in-house" version of sCANalyser to read manufacturer specific information, including Knock Retard. Phil is also trying to get a hold of the knock-box for when we do put her on the dyno.

BTW - I just let have a guy drive it who owns an RX-8 and also races an RX-7 (currently) and also a V8 Supercar in the past. He felt it noticably had more grunt, and was quite impressed. He felt the throttle response was much improved, more like a V8 I can't wait to dial in some real boost
