It will control boost better than an internal wastegate so long as it's working as it should.

If you don't have the wastegate dump routed back to the exhaust piping, it will be pretty loud when it opens.

Question:

Is there anywhere we can buy the upgraded actuators for the GReddy openly? I know you (MM), and Brian at BNR make some good fits - but is it available to us who didn't order the 3071 upgrade or the BNR upgrade?

frosty i have one of jeff's upgraded actuators for my BNR turbo...you should be able to purchase a wastegate from either jeff or bryan from bnr with the bracket already made to fit the tdo6 housing

Any chance of a sound clip ?

If it is worn out you need to look at your oil supply and drain .

Ouch. That sounds like bearings.

Sounds almost exactly like mine did. I blew up my old CHRA a few months ago..not sure why, when I took it off the car prior to replacing the engine the turbo was fine.

Put it on the new build and the bearings were making some whirling noises about a day after I installed it, and then stopped completely...

End result: No boost, bearing(s) seized, turbine broke off

lots and lots and lots of smoke lol. I suggest taking it off before it seizes completely

/\ what sized restrictor did you use ?
How was your drain configured ?
What BOV were you using and was it preventing surge ?

Like I said in my first post I have over 40000kms and still going strong .
If you get a failure that quickly you have to look at the design of your system .

Was/is a .050 restrictor I believe? I have the same drain setup as Gregs, down to the part numbers he provided me in his thread.

Using a TiAL Q

I'm going to say it was my fault for not thoroughly checking the turbo after I had removed it from the previous engine

Perhaps - but does not sound like it did a lot of miles before hand either ....

restrictor should be 0.05 - 0.065 apparently .

Is your BOV vent to atmos ? Does it effectively eliminate surge at low rpm ?
Do you know what boost is in the charge pipe at part throttle ?

Yeah, the valve does a great job opening under almost all conditions.

No I don't, but I have the boost tee'd off at the compressor outlet for the wastegate. Also have a boost controller

FWIW, it's running great

Why would I hook a boost controller into the UIM??????

It goes from the outlet, to the BC, to the wastegate.

Because GReddy's instructions have you do it that way.
