GReddy is in, but not tuned yet

I went with the eManage, E01, & SSQV BOV, the latter of which still needs the recirc hooked up. I have a boost gauge & EGT gauge mounted on the steering column.

It pulls nicely to about 6k rpm under part throttle, but it runs worse than stock at WOT and above 6k rpm. Also, there is a bit of a burning smell & a tiny bit of smoke, but that's probably the new parts 'burning in'.

Once I've done dyno tuning, I'll post my numbers.

Yea, the burning smell is the new parts and the heat tape. It will gradually go away, smoke quicker, smell later. Mine lasted about a week. Go ahead and just load mazda maniac's 5/5 map found on this forum, it is still a rich map but runs way better than the stock one, I have heard that Greddy uses the mazda maniac's map but I swear it runs better with it loaded instead of the greddy map. You will still get a rich spot in the 4500 to 6000 rpm range when easing on the gas, just give it some gas and it smoothes out or shift gears for now. Gotta get mine tuned too! good luck

Nightmare.

Why did I put a GReddy turbo on my car? What was I thinking? Now it stalls, sometimes starts only after much cranking, and doesn't accelerate above 5.5-6k rpms. WOT bogs the car at all rpms. The boost controller solenoid is defective, and I am still waiting for a replacement 1 + weeks later.

This is after spending a lot of money on an SSQV BOV/recirc, E01, gauges, etc.

At this point, I would strongly advise others not to buy this kit.

Thats scary..

I am close to buying a greddy, but it just seems more and more people are having problems. Mainly with the E-Manage.

Yea, its scary, but honestly guys, some 8s have trouble while others of us are zoom zoom pssst! Luckily i am one of those and from my experience, most of the problem comes from the stock greddy tune. Try one of the maps here on the forum and see what happens.

I loaded the Matt 5/5/05 map, & it didn't make any difference at all. My 8 still runs like a putrid pile of poo.

What flash level are you on. I think the 8's that are running like **** are running flashes other than the M level. Since all of the tuning was for M, and deviation from that will cause the car not to run good until you get it retuned. Also, about the hard starting, I had some of that, but noticed if you just let your car idle for a few minutes before turning it off that goes away. Putting the heat on decreases how long you have to let it idle for. As far as stalling, make sure your BOV isn't set to soft. These are just some initial bugs you have to work through, once you fix them, you'll love your turbo and be extremely glad you did it.

If you are having idle problems or stalling problems, take the stock screens from the stock air box and modify the airnx breather by expoxying them in there, helps keep the air from being too turblent. Check out philodox's thread for instructions. Honestly, my car runs great.

I just replied to your post on how to install the vacuum lines on the E-01 solenoid. How do you know it's defective? Might have been installed wrong or it's not operating correctly since your kit is bogging.

As far as having all the problems, you should have tried to "slowly" add components in. I installed the turbo myself and verified that it was working as it should... no leaks, boost curve is where it should be, etc. It did bog and I switched to Mazdamaniacs map which helped. Then I added the BOV after a few weeks and it needed to be adjusted since it messed up my idle. Then I had it dynotuned which fixed the no power after 6k rpms (Mazdamaniacs map was still too rich for my car). Then the E-01. I also discovered a boost leak in the middle of all this.

Basically, by installing everything at once your going to have problems troubleshooting it since you really don't know where to start.

Well IMO the greddy kit is lacking as far as management goes. If you release a kit it should be more than 50% margin factor. I think 2 out of 8 cars actually works.
