HAHAHAHA...i am such a nerd.

ok, we got fuel, no spark.. under what conditions would the injectors be getting a signal, but not the coils? NONE! so it's definately in the ignition system--all 4 coils simultaneously burnout all at once? not in a million years... it's a control problem.

so i popped the lid on the ecu box and sure enough, one of the connectors wasn't snapped in all the way...my bad

what a rookie mistake!!!!!!!!

plugged it back in, 2 bumps and it came to life :D
idles perfectly. obd2 data is normal

i'm going to get the air flow rate from the maf sensor when the motor has run in. i want to see if it's any more efficient at idle. can anyone get their airflow rate on a warm engine @ idle so we can compare?

i'm off to button everythign up and take the maiden voyage to the car wash.

dyno results hopefully within a week!!!!!!!!!!

Not only is this the most interesting thread on the forum, but this is happening at Christmas! Right on cue....

Now we just need to hear that Snoochie's engine is getting another 15+ hp and we can start celebrating! :D

i'd like to believe that a really good porting of the intake and exhaust could find as much as 20%-30% more whp. so douple your above number or more. i dont remember what his original dyno number was. but if it was like 180-190 id like to see a 210-240 whp number.

His orig dyno was in the 160s I'd expect 190-210 from that baseline.. hopefully I'm wrong on the good side (i.e. more power)

Edit: On that note, it was gjunkie that said it's not about the HP numbers, it's about the %.. and I totally agree.. if he adds 20-30%, that's an AMAZING number.. and I want to get in line for my own pretty rotors.. :D

Now I have a general porting stupid question.. would porting the exhaust egress make turbos more efficient? More flow = more spin, or no? Is this one of those things that we're effectively all going to need to do to make all other mods worth doing? (Sure sounds that way)

the exhaust porting would most definately help the turbo spoolup. no question about it. as far as the efficiency is concerned, that'll have to be determined through research and testing.

my best guess is with the porting, you could use a larger a/r turbine housing and get the same spoolup as a lower a/r with the stock ports, but the larger a/r will always give you more hp per pound of boost.

anyhoo, went to the car wash in my traditional maiden voyage style... car ran beautifully. i didn't stomp on it or anything, but since nothing mechanically went wrong, i'm happy.

BUT

we got a check engine light.
i pulled code p0300 (random misfire)

my hypothesis on this is either
1) motor just needs to run in and get everything re-seated
or
2) possibly, it's using more air and the maf sensor isn't calibrated for it... in which case, i'd think lean misfire. but it's running in closed loop, so it should correct unless it was using a LOT more air and fuel. so if that's the case, we may need to go with some kind of management....e-manage, canzoomer, etc.

it's premature to say what's wrong and what it'll take to fix it, so i'm just going to run in some miles on it today and see where it ends up. any other ideas on what's going on are more than welcome. i do have a feeling it'll probably be fine once it's run in, but only time will tell.

and rg you were right. i just needed some daylight and a fresh point of view to figure it out. sleep does wonders for problem solving ability...i haven't got much since the car got jacked.

So, you didn't actually detect the misfire, until the CEL came on?

Did you take it up past 3750 RPMs?

i did take it to about 5k @ half throttle. wierd the code came up...my butt-dyno didn't detect a misfire

exactly and 20% of 160 is 32hp- very nice

Now I don't know alot about rotarys but never have I seen more then 10% increase. And that was on old old engine designs. 30% would mean it left the factory with nail holes for ports.
The people who design engines didn't just get those jobs because they were stupid.
When I was a kid I thought the engineers in Detroit were stupid, didn't they read hot rod magazines. If they did they would know how to make more power.

when i streetported my fc motor, hp went from 238 to 300 at the same boost level.
what's that, like 26%? i advanced the port timing WAY out, though.

i'm not expecting anything drastic on this motor, just something solid all across the rpm band.

i held my hand over the exhaust with the engine running for however long it takes me to smoke a cig.. ~5 minutes? it popped only twice. i think the misfire monitor is being too bitchy. LOL

Richard, porting a rotary is the piston equivalent to changing the camshaft and installing larger valves on a piston engine. That most certainly can give a piston engine more than 10% more power.

You're right, like I said, no rotary experiance. But I should have realized that if I was thinking. To many late nights doing bad things when I was in school killed a lot of brain cells. I thought I was preserving them with alcohol, didn't work.

What scanner are you using? And what other data do you want to compare?

Can you read IPW to see if it is a lean issue?

EDIT...after pulling the engine did you reset the plate profile with the brake pedal dance?
