Hi, i see that you can install two Gt35r instead of one or one Innovative t 80 with Q trim and 1.00 exhaust scroll, this turbo spool very fast . t88 is large turbo for street uses too much lag to spool it in the street you would need No2 shot to spool it faster in the street . my brother owned a supra 96 tt , we istall a greddy t88 the cars runs great on the dyno but on the streets the FD,s are more faster than the supra because their turbos spool more faster than our supra. BTW no cut the factory engine wire looms you will need to keep working the cluster and Electric PowerSteering and remove the crank sensor and crank wheel and you will a need Can bus converter o keep the PS running. If any help please PM me.

If I were to own a Supra it would have a good ole GT35R or maybe a T66, can make big power but still streetable. However, I'm assuming this car is just going to be a fun toy and not something you plan on putting a lot of miles on so go get yourself a SP88 and be done with it

SickestRx_8ghini,
Since you are after unique, why not make a sequential twin-turbo?

So wait--

Your former JGTC engineer spent five months planning and designing and blueprinting every aspect of this swap, but you're asking The Intarweb what kind of turbo might be good? I have no doubts that you're serious about this swap, and the end result could be pretty incredible (if done right) . . . but turbo selection seems like something that should have been done a long time ago if this swap is going to be pulled off.

Peace

I keep checking back expecting there to be some sort of pix... even the car with the engine bay gutted and a supra block next to it... anything that lets us know this is forreal and not a bunch of hot air.

If you want a dyno queen, by all means put on a t88 on there, your peak numbers will be outstanding. But as for a daily driver, two GT35R would spool up much faster and give you a much more usable power band.

If youre gunna go all the way on this thing, you ever think about hyper-charging it? (SC+Turbo) Ive seen it done on an E36 M3 in S.Africa, and that guys torque band is a friggn table top.
Or just go with a twin-screw... eurosport is releasing an upgrade to their unit very soon, so you'd be able to do more than just swap the pullys.
Lots of options man, but like Policyvote said, this is something that should have been written into your blueprints, as lots of planning ahead is neccessary unless you plan on doing it twice.
GL, post some pix... lets see where youre at!

just guessing...availability? the 2JZGTE is probably easier to get than the RB26DETT.

i do have one legitimate question tho... if you're going with i6, why didn't you choose the r34 engine?

anyhow, i wish you luck. please keep us posted.
I would have goine with a STI motor...nice and low

but then again.....I would keep it a rotary.

^ As in Subaru flat 4? Um...why? Just for a lower center of gravity? That definitely wouldn't be my choice for a motor transplant.

The S2000 engine would work but it's really just a step sideways from the Renesis. The Renesis isn't weak. It's tuning is. When tuned properly it is easily as powerful as the S2000 engine.

If torque is what RX-8 owners are after, how about a turbo diesel? It'll get better mileage too!!!

So, one month after the initial post by the author, and still.....what ? Any results, or any progress ?

I won't go into my other arguments (RX8 was designed/built around a rotary engine, weight distribution will go to Hell and back three times, car won't be streetable, and it will probably need more cash thrown at it for suspension and brakes in order to actually roll)....

EDITED after my dear friend below has indicated that there ARE some pixs in the ONLY page of this thread that I haven't read

I don't think the handling will be as bad as everybody thinks. The chassis is still good. There are very few cars with 50/50 balance... And even the ones that don't have it can still handle very well. If he puts the right set of springs / coilovers etc, then it should handle just fine.

yea... one that don't have it can still handle very well, but not as well as ones that do.

simply try moving your battery to the back... you'll notice that your nose will be a lot more steerable. i can only imagine what a supra i6 block would feel.
