Esmeril Racing Apex Seals on an FI'd renesis - post your experience good or bad
I am considering these seals on my next build since Steve Kan recommended them and stated he has never seen a broken Esmeril seal and because Brettus has had such a good experience with them. Keep in mind Steve's experience is on RX-7's. My only hesitation is because I question Esmeril's ability to make a decent product. I can't stop thinking that if they cannot make a decent turbo kit then how can they design and engineer good Apex seals.

They/he is an engineering firm but the last time I did some background the website was down and there has been some shady stuff going on (fake Tial wastegates, no communication to customers, etc.) with them which is why I have my doubts.

I wouldn't buy anything from them ever......horrible issues, and they are still going with their products. I had the fake turbo kit in which the only real branded item was the turbo. Another member just sold his kit with the fake tial as well, which was purchased well after mine.

Ah okay, who built your engine?
KDR, speed1 now..i had a lot of considerations toward seals when it was being built..he had to send the rotor out, and we had to choose the right seals..it was a special order...basically at the end, it cost me as much as ceramic seal from NRS..it think it was called NRS..
NRS used to make ceramic for rx7 only, but now they have for RX8, but ONE PIECE ..not two pieces like regular seals...well, at the end, grooving and rx7 seals are cheaper than ceramic..

there is no substitute for ceramic.
It is not totally about the strength of the seal it is about how a poorly wearing leaking seal can help lead to detonation. Ceramic seals have an unsurpassed ability to seal better for a much longer period of time.
Totally sold on them--for Fi in this engine.

Rebuilding at the moment. I have purchased new stock apex seals however, after I dismantled my blown engine i found that it failed due to detonation on front rotor which scarred the rotor and housing. The engine had done 148 000km and died at the drags.
The housings was slightly work and easily reusable, the rotors where quite clean and the exhaust ports where very clean with no carbon build-up.
After seeing how easily the stock apex seal snaps I would like to consider alternative options.
The ideal seal should have stock weight and be bendable. Any recommendations?

Pretty much same story here - I've been using the same E&J (previously ALS) apex seals as slash and been running 10-13 psi on my Greddy for over a year, both as my daily driver and on occasional track duty. They've held up so far, which ain't too bad considering the punishing high exhaust back pressure and heat the exhaust ports see from the restrictive Greddy T25 turbine housing.
On the contrary (not saying aftermarket apex seals aren't better) I've been running stock apex seals on the Greddy (non-upgraded turbo) for 6 years now at 7psi and in the last two years at 9psi. Haven't had any issues but I've always had safe tuning; which is the key to keeping any brand of apex seals alive.
