I spoke with Brian and I was going to be the mule for the first "full" bridgeport. Unfortunately, due to financial burdens I couldn't follow through. I was told there was one other person willing to invest the money to have this done, tuned and tweaked but he wouldn't be able to do it until late winter.

Just throwing it out there, this was several months ago fyi, the situation may have changed.

It wasn't cheap by any means, this will be a major investment for all involved

I've always wondered if the Renny shows similar improvements with modifications like this as it would in a REW? Then the next question would be does this make sense on a NA or FI?

I don't really have that much invested in my bridge port. I can't imagine that it would be too much more than that build. No reason it can't be tuned with an access port, and it's not going to breath more than an FI car.

To me it was going to be expensive, haha. I was planning on tuning with the Cobb AP, that's what we talked about. I was also going to bolt up a Turblown GT35R Hybrid. Everything was going to get coated, balanced, 2mm apex seals, ect.

Now that I can't do that I'm just tuning with the cobb, bought some headers and exhaust, intake, pulleys and a ton of suspension mods. The car is fast enough in the mountains without a bridgeport imho. I've driven faster cars for sure but none that feel as balanced.

i'm sure even the renesis could still benefit slightly from a full bridge

but you have to keep in mind it isn't a very street friendly port

AND

you will lose about half of your current fuel mileage. is it worth it for about a 40 horsepower gain? turbo + AI is what i would go for if i owned an 8 and wanted more power, to retain drivability AND mileage.

sure a bridge sounds great but there is 0 chance of being smoggable legally, it is herky jerky at low RPMs and gets horrible fuel mileage and leaves you smelling like a filling station at the end of every drive. i talk people OUT of bridges all the time.

Sorry I have to ask... what is AI? I can come up with about a dozen silly things to do with terminator and skynet but I'm sure that is not what you are talking about.

I wish Eric would come back. It seems every time someone posts useful and factual information, the next post after theirs is some doofus who posts bullshit with no experience.

Can't say I blame the guy. Wish he had a blog or something.

HUH!?!?

A little more power, sure.

Street friendly, should be just fine. There's not a lot of port are in a Renesis. The ports are already pretty big

Half the MPG!? what are you smoking... I still get 260 miles to a tank... it's the same mileage I was getting before the bridge, I just have to baby it a little more. I typically get 240 or so miles to a tank, but I also don't do a lot of highway driving. So porting the primaries may cause another drop in efficiency, but it's not going to get anywhere close to half. I wager 200 miles per tank worse case.

I'm with Hoss... AI?

FI is a "better" option sure, but port work is like $500 tops, and if you need a rebuild anyway, it's a good way to add a little more power. I'm over 6,000 miles and still running fine.

cob access port can ensure you'll pass smog in 48 states.
It's not "jerky" at low RPM
It's not any worse than FI would be on your fuel economy.

and why would you smell like a "filling station"? This would tell me that you didn't bother tuning it, and or bothered to run a high flow catalyst. If the air fuel mixture is correct, it would be no different than any other hopped up 8.

I really think you're confusing old school 12a / 13b bridge ports with Renesis bridge ports, and even then, it all comes down to tuning and setup. Regardless, you shouldn't sell like gasoline unless it's not set up right.

That's the post I was referring to, actually. I lol'd a little.

lol @ smelling like a filling station. Perhaps if you have an exhaust leak. I've been catless for over a year now, and the only time I smell fumes is when standing directly behind my car or sitting at idle for prolonged periods.

Yea, I daily drive my bridge...
It seems reliable enough to me so far. I dont drive very many miles a year.. maybe 10k tops because i work like 10~15 minutes from home. So if anyone's engine is going to last the least amount of time it's mine. Once it breaks the 10k mark I think it will have started to prove it will last a fair amount of time. will take a couple years to put 20+ on it though. At this point, I would do it again. It definitely pulls more in the mid to upper RPMs, than my stock port engine, so I can't complain with the results too much. The car has some other non bridge port related problems to address before I want to dyno it, but it's something I'll get to eventually.

You have no clue WRT the Renesis, maybe you should just go back to RX7Club already ...

Keep us updated! I've been following you on the Bridgeport for a while. I'm going to have Brian do a street port for me on my next motor. Glad you are happy with it. I bet the added midrange and top end power was welcomed. I hear you on needing to address the clutch and other issues before you dyno. I've been dying to fill my bottle and head to the dyno, but I'm finding my clutch slipping even off the bottle on occasion.

You guys should come to deals gap rotary rally. The car is there every year. It's the east coast's big rotary event.

I used to frequent deals gap in my old MR2. I've been wanting to check it out in the 8 however.
