Yea except that it would be helpful to sell the units to tuners and let them worry about it. Mazsport I bet could get it to work pretty well and then sell it as a kit. It would be higher priced than the final product from Richard, but at least you could get SOME market traction and installations going. Why just sit on your thumbs and NOT make money when you could start selling the units NOW and make money while your waiting for COBB? Makes financial sense to me...but then again when I make products I usually try to sell them.

Personally i would much rather see a software/dongle package kit first and foremost. This will really keep the price down.

if they decided to develop a handheld unit later that is fine, as long as it doesnt delay the release of the initial software/dongle package for the rx8.

When it comes to a new product sometimes a first impression is all you get. I can't blame Richard for wanting to be 100% sure of the quality of his final released product.

The clock doen't start ticking untill the sale of the first unit. You can't exactly start counting the life sapan of a product from the start of it's R&D. If you could the RX-8 would be about 8 years old, not 4.

I'm pretty sure that the AFSC itself has bugs worked out. It's the EMU/Tuning that is said to be the hold up. We KNOW that other people out there have the experience to tackle that problem. And while I understand that he cant focus his time on this because he has other things to do which make him money...well that problem can be remedied...sell the units themselves to anyone who wants them with NO warranty...I am POSITIVE a tuner will pick one up...and sell it as a (albeit more expensive) kit. He sells units...keeps his focus on the other things...and makes money both ways until COBB releases and he can devote some time to this project to finally sell it as he intended as a kit for a lower price. You then have two options...the "standard" plug and play kit...or the "High-Power" (cause you know thats what will happen) kit from a third party tuner. Any way you slice it...he's is selling UNITS and turning a profit.

I miss anything?

Richard knows that there are many here, sitting on their hands, waiting for him to release. They aren't willing to accept anything else.

If he supplies someone else as a oem , they go aggressive and make more power (with their tune) than he does, then he sells less units for less money. He also looses controll of the unit. If engines blow, who gets the blame?

I'm just talking about making money. Plain and simple. He's got units...he can turn a profit. Hell I would probably want to only buy the SC itself so I can build my own setup anyway. Sucks I have to wait for a "kit" only to dismantle it to get what I wanted out of it.

Umm...he is the ONLY supplier of the units so if they sell more of thier kit, he's still turning a good profit and reducing liability on his part. The more THEY sell, the more HE sells.

How does he lose control of the unit? I do not understand that statement. It's his and he holds the patents/rights to prevent others from copy-cat's.

If a third party tuner sells the kit and the engine blows...you go back to the tuner. It's like purchasing a turbo kit from mazsport. If the kit blows your motor do you go back and bitch out turbonetics since it was THIER snail? No...you go to the vendor of the kit.

I just got my computer back from a week in the sick computer hospital. I havn't tried all the programs but everything is supposed to work. Maybe I can put in pictures now.
Anyway I will confirm that we are talking with Cobb Tuning. I don't have much more inside info then some of you have so I will not call out dates.
I will say that I think this is a great match for the AFSC.

At this moment we have plans to ship our car up to Utah at the end of the month for some match up work. Trey tells me he can tune the car right now but the suppling of production type hardware is waiting on some fine componant rework and vender interface parts. They are a proven commodity and I beleive them.

As you guys know I am out of water when it comes to computer work. I can tell you the reason why we will not release the SC before we have our own electronics. If we give it to someone who blows an engine or just has poor results it will damage the image even if it is not our fault.

It's would be bad enough if we did something wrong but at least we would be getting because we screwed up. This doesn't mean that we will not sell it bare after the kit is out. Then we could always defend ourselves by pointing to good installationss. I'm not saying someone can't do it better, maybe they can but we need to be conservitive.

Hopefully there will be a website or somethign with specific specs and pricing when this reaches its release date? For someone who has not forged through 325 pages up until now... the info on the kit is like a needle in a haystack.

j/k - good luck to both of you, and sorry for getting pissy about you not posting. PC's are at times just like women, can't live with them and you can't live without them.

I tried that a while ago but found that it creates too many system interuptions/conflicts when in close proximity to each other. I am also not Jeff (MM) so unfortunately it was only two at any given time. Finally it was waay too easy to catch a virus or randomly crash on you forcing you to perform maintinence all the freaking time. More trouble than what its worth my friend...haa
