The problem with the actuator isn't that it fails. It's that the actuator isn't strong enough to hold itself closed in the upper rpm because of the high exhaust pressure. This results in lower boost pressure up top and when this happens, even a boost controller won't help since it can't control the position of the actuator arm.
Thanks man! So is there a stronger actuator available?

Yeah I am trying to read up on the T618Z and see what if anything, can be done to increase it's life.

Okay, so let's talk heat shielding. Has anyone done any type of sheet metal fab for heat shielding? Or is everyone just using a turbo blanket?

No, I am going to work on that. I am trying to decide whether to have the nipple welded or to tap it and install the nipple that way.

thats exactly what I have going on right now. I have a brass tap that I can use and I am thinking I will just tap it. My weld guy suggested that based on the thin cast outlet pipe that the kit comes with.

Thoughts on the oil feed line coming from and oil filter adapter plate rather than the factory oil pressure sending unit?

Does anyone think the Mazmart Oil Pressure mod will affect this?

I got this tap done. It was super easy man. I tapped it then used copper rtv gasket sealer around the edges. Came out clean and tight. Super easy to drill through as well

Nice. Pics? I just found out my GF's landlord is a welder who does aluminum gates. I am going to have him do something simple for me to test out the quality of his work.

I will take some pics this evening for you and post them in my build thread.

Its always nice to have access to a welder. Did you see the pics of my manifold after getting rewelded :D

I got it done for free through my next door neighbor, they ground out the old welds and rewelded with nickle rod. The welders are engineers at a powerplant so they did their engineer duty by testing with red dye to be sure there were no leaks. Super awesome and it looks great

No way, I was thinking something simple like tabs on my secondary radiators, something that if it doesn't look pretty it's no biggie. I would hate for him to **** up on your pan.

Yeah I saw that, the weld work looks nuts.

Good question - maybe do a flow test with the drain tube off like MM did in Mad Dogs' thread ....

The turbo definitely needs a rebuild and is not an upgraded unit for sure. I talked to majestic and they are going to let me know what they can do to address the need for additional cooling by adding water cooling. The blow off valve is a Greddy Type R and is huge. Other than that everything in teh kit looks good. I am going to try and put it all together on the floor just to make sure.

Also, I am just throwing this out there. I talked to a buddy of mine who was big into the DSM's back in the day (Diesel truck freak now) and he was saying that people have run a separate oiling system for the turbo itself to avoid having to rebuild the Mitsubishi turbos every couple of years.

He said many bashed the idea but that some ran it successfully. I will research but any thoughts on it? I know it adds complexity and with tapping into the factory system you get more pressure with increased RPM and I'm not sure how a separate system could deal with that.

Scroll down to the last pump option.
