Really? the III's are that good? I have the II's, and they suck *****. My 8 is stock, and I can't take a turn too aggressive, without the DSC going crazy.

I've got 295/25ZR20's and I still spin out on 1st gear, I had to leave it at 6psi, then switch to high boost. Got the GReddy steering wheel remote.

Ya I am very happy with the III's. Tirerack had them in a higher category than the II's as well (Like High Performance Summer [II] vs Max Performance Summer [III] or something like that). Originally I ordered General Exclaim UHP, but Vance from Tirerack called me up to confirm/discuss my sizing choice, and ended up talking me into them. Very happy he did.

They didnt spin even at 12 psi. Not sure I attempted it in 1st, just use that to get rolling. 2nd didn't have a problem with traction that I can recall, but 3rd onward absolutely had zero problems with traction at full boost for sure.

The only question is, how long will they last. They are sticky as hell, so the life span is probably sacrificed. I'll let everyone know when I've used them up. At 10K miles on that set so far (aggressive driving / no track).

If anyone is interested, the testimonials from owners were compelling:

Its actually held up to a lot more. Closer to 500-520whp without issues.

The only thing I have damaged on a tranny so far is something that a lot of people have done with Stock cars and that is the 1-2shift fork which gets damaged from shifting too hard but has nothing to do with the actual power. Too much power breaks the gears or bearings, I have had no such failures. The time it failed I wasn't even on it too hard, I just shifted hard and that was it...

Yes and no...
also the 3rd-4th shift fork gets damaged easily and the selectors are not bullet proof eithers Also premature synchro wear...
I know i broke my synchros because of bent forks with a modded NA rx8 often tracked so i wouldn't like to hang around with 500hp and a stock transmission!

Since you have a lot of CNC machinery why don't you make some good stuff for our transmission as well? do it!

On that note what type of exhaust system are you using?

I originally had an ACT type 6puck sprung hub clutch and it held up fine until up to about 420whp at which point it would hold up under normal use on the street but if taken to the 1/4mi track would probably slip. Right now I have an OS Giken Twin Disc and it is amazing, less pedal pressure than the ACT...almost like stock, and 550ftlb of capacity which in a renesis would equate to somewhere around 800hp. As for the tranny, it hasn't been touched...and has worked fine for the last 3 years with the exception of the aforementioned issue.

thats a bit rude, this transmission can be sensitive, Ive had my transmission rebuilt 2 times and a new engine all within 20,000 miles. First rebuild the 5th gear syncro died The second rebuild was 2nd gear. Now my tranmission has a loud bearing noise when in gear or neutral. I am N/A I drive the car not that hard. As for the engine .. no idea it was running strong I thought.

I dont slam, grind though the box.

Just let him talk. Wonder why pretty much everybody who tracks this car needs to replace the transmission sooner or later...

I'm not one to call bull **** or talk trash... But I find it hard he talks about 500 horse and no problems with the tranny. I didn't bend no forks... I had no shift problems. I went to Mid Ohio race course and ran my car there pretty hard. Boosting to 14psi and not only did I break my second gear from doing hard shifts from first to second but did it three times!!!!! That's right no bent forks no bad sync's just broken teeth!!!! I did a rx7 tranny install. So far everything good.. But I haven't dyno'd yet... I have the 3.9 gears but I'm guessing I'm around the 400 hp

But the thing is that I am a bit confused why there is so much discrepancy between different cars .... Some people can aparantly go turbo, increase their peak power by over 100, and have no tranny problems, while others will run into trouble running close to stock. Could all of this be attributed to the driver? Or is there something else going on?

I believe how you drive it does make a big difference...how are you shift and stuff. When I was at the track there was a few corners that was big enough for a slide around in second but didn't fit really for a e brake... I don't know I did do some clutch slipage and hit it for the slide. But another thing I think most people don't take into thought...is TIRES, and, SUSPENSION. Most of use don't get the traction when they went turbo....just like chris saying he's putting down 414 at the wheels.. all though we've never seen a actual dyno proving it...and he did a video saying look I have no traction...but if I had cheap tires with no traction I could do a burny all the way into 3rd if I wanted with the stock gearing. I paid a little over 250 a piece for my rear tires. They are a soft rubber and hook up very well. When I'm drifting, racing or just playing I'm very hard on the gears and everything. I have the 3.9 gears so that's more stress to the transmission plus the expensive tires. So my tranny has to be strong and well the rx8 isn't strong.
