I've been building a new motor with plans to run a pair of FD rotors. At the same time I had been in contact with Edgar at E & J to see if he could mill a set of side seals for rx8 rotors like he has done for rx7 rotors.
And he did.
So now that the side seals are ready, this new motor will run rx8 rotors with these new side seals as well as E & J 2mm full height apex seals.

Just so people can do some searching the E & J 2mm full height apex seals where formally known as ALS seals, E & J provided them to ALS. due to some issues on ALS side, E & J are now there own seals and marketing them as such. but there the same seals.

I've yet to see anything that offers any explanation on how the "billet" side seals are an improvement over OE?

From E & J:
In response to the bending of the side seal and if it helps any(https://www.facebook.com/video/embed...51546884601671).
No it doesn’t help or hurt. I can tell you if they get stuck they won’t break. The bending comes from the material type and it has nothing to do with its strength. The material is very strong and flexible, it also has better heat resistance than the factory seals. On our apex seals we have run 70 psi of boost and seen EGT temps of 1400 F without any failures. I don't recommend anyone try it, but for testing purposes it provided us with great info. We tested the material on a Renesis engine with our billet rotors and rx-7 version of these side seals and had no problems. The issue is temperature and direct contact with exhaust gases because of the position of the exhaust ports. Where do we start to fix this problem? Well, I would start with the side seals, find a material that will withstand more heat and maybe the heat transfer won’t be as great to the springs which would make them last longer. The next step would be to try to extend the life of the spring and increase temperature resistance by coating the spring itself.
Thank you.
Edgar Perez

Since they only use those rotors for drag racing I'm not sure if that translates to extended WOT use. The reason I was wondering is because the side seal itself usually isn't the issue.

And according to Edgar himself, these are really only designed for that use, not for street use. But I'm not sure what your intended use for this car is.

They don’t. I’m running a ported/modified Racing Beat manifold adapter plate. Tight fit with the 4” dp but it works.
The upper is a Pro-Jay MTBA 8-injector Elbow to AccuFab 90mm Mustang TB.

So you are running a big intake , big exhaust , big turbo ... One gets the impression you are after some big numbers ....?

yessir Brettus.
Previous results were more than promising considering the setup at the time and condition of the motor.
There have been significant improvements/changes to the setup (one being the 9.0:1 rotors), I'm just picking up where I left off and with what I've learned, goal is somewhere around 700-750hp @ 30psi based on those previous results and current setup.

Well that would certainly prove my theory wrong ..... The way it's idling I'm guessing that you did the mod I chickened out on doing .... beveled the exhaust side of the 9.0 rotors ?

Jets, Kudos to your creativity & courage...pushing the envelope regarding the capabilities of the renesis platform. Love it when experimentation confronts theory. Definitely an interested observer...

All the best!

Not on these rotors. I have another set that will get the scallops. There’s definitely more overlap now though.
And based on what I’ve seen from you over the course of about 10 years I’d say you are FAR from a chicken bruh.

Thank you sir. The MSP isn’t that bad of platform at all depending on the application. It just needs to breath...a LOT, as in open exhaust a lot, and it will make a LOT of reliable power.

Agreed. I suppose it's relative...but I wasn't chasing big #s`, rather solid #s...low/mid 300s, w/ DD manner, and reliability. So, I street ported my exhaust ports w/ bias toward end irons, left the intakes untouched, bolted on a few other goodies...and so far so good.l

That said...it's intriguing to follow others undertaking quality builds pursuing BIG#s.

I'm intrigued as to how you got the overlap .................. bridgeport ?
