However, the design of the Renesis (e.g. high compression ratio & weird exhaust ports) will always be problems for FI long-term reliability.
I would say just the exhaust ports are the primary problem...not compression. With a higher compression you can make the same power with less PSI.

Everyone has been hurt at some point, when trying to make boosted power with a rotary. Time will make the renisis reliable. And for whatever swap you are comfortable with, then do it.
As for relibility..... It is up to the tuner and owner.

ive seen these motors go with under 10k and under 5k... especially when you start making power **** breaks.

these motors built from a reputable shop can be anywhere from 3500-5000 dlaars depending what you are looking for..

i tihnk it is impressive but if i were gonna thorugh that kind of money into it i would went a different route. amybe LS or maybe sr20.. but personally RX8 isnt my cup of tea

good job and good luck
Yeah, apex seal = design flaw

That would be one scary ride!

Yep. 300-350WHP for 100k+ miles isn't a problem with the non-Renesis 13B.

probably not since I don't have 300-350rwhp, nor is it a daily driver

I want to hug your engine. Don't know why but joy joy feelings are emerging at the possibility of that much hp in my 8. being as my 8 is now my daily driver, this is no longer a possible dream for me.

True it is a dyno queen at 874.

But it did 850 20 times back to back. And anything would not be streetable at 1000hp.

It has spent its life a 400rwhp. This is just an example of how reliable a rotary can be at these levels.

The 8 is cool, but it would be complete if you could make it move at a quick rate for a long period of time.

Cheers.

Many people on this forum have been able to move at a quick rate for a long period of time with the 8. Now that also depends on your definition of quick rate and long period of time.
For me, I am happy with the way it is, so I guess that's why I have turbo 8 and not a mustang or an RX7 like that one.
I would never need all that power, and could care less about numbers.

I agree with you 100%!!!

No one with a turbo Renesis is likely to get 100k miles out of it...50k+ might be more common with the Accessport & the GT3071r upgrade (props to MM).

At least now we can rule out bad/erratic tuning and a ****** turbo (18g) pushed out of it's efficiency zone. What's next is to see if there is indeed a problem with the exhaust ports and/or heat soak on the rear rotor which creates asymmetric thermal stress that eventually results in a grenaded engine.

Since the goal is to shove as much air/fuel into the engine as possible per unit time and combust it safely, the higher compression ratio of the Renesis rotors will always be fighting against that. All other things being equal, it's easier to get a higher mass flow rate with a lower compression engine (to a point).

Some day when I have cash again I will have another go at making a fast RX-8. When I do, it will be with a pre-Renesis 13B and a numerically lower rear axle ratio.
