Is there possibly something wrong as to why I can't jump from folder to folder rather then having to fast forward through all the tracks I have loaded????
Any info would be a great help.

Hey,no problem. I thought I had read that the USB version did now have the option to jump folders in the post somewhere. So far I'm loving the Audio Link but I have encountered one problem....
I have added several folders of mp3s on a 8gig jump drive and several songs are starting to start skipping almost like a scratched cd..... but the songs are fine on my home pc... and I tried this morning with a track that started skipping about 20 seconds in and it played the whole song fine... but still several of the other tracks are still doing it.
Has anyone else had a problem like this?? When I am referring to skipping the songs starts playing, goes silent for a sec, plays for a sec, silent for a sec, plays for a sec, etc.
This is the only problem I have had so far.

Anyone with a USB version to confirm you can only listen to the first 99 mp3s on your drive?? I need to know if this is a possible defect with my unit.
Thanks ahead of time.

Do you have one of the earlier AudioLink devices that did not support iPod playlists? Want to upgrade your unit to add that functionality? You can now do so for just $5.95.
We have tried to make this as cheap as possible, charging just enough to cover the cost of the chip, shipping materials, and the cost of shipping. Due to the low cost, these will be shipped via First Class Mail. You may "upgrade" to Priority Mail for $3.53 by choosing "quoted shipping" at checkout and using the shipping quote code: 89E4
To order, click here: http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...roducts_id=275
The link also describes the new functionality and shows one of the pictures from the installation guide, to give you an idea of what to expect.
Please read the information on the website prior to asking any questions. If you do have questions, please send them via PM to avoid taking this thread off topic. Thank you!

my usb/mp3 player changes something when i press disc+- .. it think it goes to the next folder .. i though that was supposed to imitate the ipod version's functionality .. now i never really understood how that worked as i wasnt getting ever to some folders (about 8-10 of them total) .. but i do see ex2 ex3 up to ex5 i think
now falconx .. is there versioning that we can check on the units .. and can we have full functionality specs for all the versions so that we can stop guessing who has what functionality ..
if we cant do that than can we start some sort of versioning .. and state that all unstamped units have the minimal functionality .. and all upgrade versions would have full specs

Honestly, I was under the impression that there was no enhanced functionality for the USB version. The few units I have tested did not have it. The manufacturer did mention that it was being worked on and that they had experienced some bugs that they were trying to solve. Perhaps some of the development software was unintentionally placed onto some of the units, in which case I have no idea what that functionality is, or if you will experience any bugs. Once the new firmware has been completed and is "officially" released, I will announce it here and allow people to upgrade, just as I am doing for those with iPod functionality. The annoucement will include a complete description of the functionality, so you will be able to compare it against your current functionality to determine what was changed between what you received and the final release.

Finally found the time to install mine, simple enough too do even with the hidden screw. Took me far longer to hard install the xm, I also took the time to hard wire my radar detector, all looks fantastic pics to follow.
I installed my audio link using velco to the carpet just along the bell housing right where the center console dash ends so I can unplug my xm and use the usb flash functionality I thought the usb was the primary, but sadly not, if you did not want to use the usb drive you could very easily install it under the radio where the cassette/md player would go.
A little note to XM ers the baby seat clip is the perfect place to install your xm antenna you can easily run the cable back to the front under the center divider.

Hey FalconTX... I havent seen a email about defective usits or replacements...please be sure to add me to the list!!!!
Still skipping (stop/start) like crazy on tracks and only getting 99 songs no matter what I do... Hopefully the replacements will be better then what I have now.

falconx .. thx for the explanation
well my cd+- worked but i would never get to some songs even .. when i changed around the folder create dates
so now just dumped all my songs in the root folder .. and ive noticed some weird behavior .. first it's not reading songs by name .. like it should .. so im not sure wheter it looks for the old layout or what .. or just shuffles .. second it blanks out when i go to next song .. just noticed this today .. when i skip to the next song .. i see the time counter starting for the new song but hear no sound .. CD button doesnt help .. and i have to turn the car off/on to get it back .. and again no ability to skip a song without loosing the sound
i didnt have much today to play with it and really figure out whats the trend .. but tomorrow ill try to unplug the cable out off the black box .. just to see if it re-reads the disk or something .. and do a few more test
also, are you aware of a storage / number of songs limit that the mp3/usb wont go beyond?

Installed the microchip upgrade today and was pretty easy except lining the little "legs" up and getting both sides to fit required a bit of patience. I was too lazy to take out the head unit to disconnect the module so I just unhooked the glovebox and took apart the module while still connected to the car, probably not the best thing but it appears to be working fine.

I am very interested in the product but i have a couple of questions.
1) Since it only supports 5 playlists for the ipod, does it just use the first 5 playlists on the ipod?
2) I'm worried about the ipod getting hot if i leave it in the car. If I constantly leave my ipod in the car, sometimes in the sun for hours, will the heat mess it up? Where is a good place to put it where it won't get too hot? I have the 30gb video ipod if that helps.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, it supports up to 5 playlists on the RX-8. It uses the first 5 in the list on your iPod.
As far as heat goes, I definitely would make sure the iPod is not sitting in direct sunlight. If you have it in the console or glovebox, it should be fine.

Thanks falcontx. So if I put it in the cup holder or the "hidden compartment" and just pull the cover closed, it shouldn't get too hot?

Well, the cupholder may get some direct sunlight during the day. The hidden compartment may be a little cooler. I'm not too sure how much heat the iPod can withstand. The hard drive inside could withstand quite a bit. The heat would be more likely to affect the battery.
