Just finished my install. My 14 year old son was able to get his arm behind the HU via the glove box, so I didnt have to fully remove the HU. The audiolink works great, the playlists can be changed via the 1 and 2 memory buttons on the HU. The steering wheel controls work as well. Thanks Falcontx!

Well, it depends on what you mean by 'mp3 thingy.' I'm not sure if you already have a unit, when you got it, or if you have one on order, nor am I sure which one you have. Please provide some more information and I should be able to answer your question.

Just got my audiolink and am looking at the install links. Your link is the reference for me in combination with the neo link you referenced.
Do you think your wire would reach the next compartment back - the so-called hidden chamber? If so, the only question then is how? I don't want to give up my cupholders since I will use the Ipod the most on long drives where I am most likely to have a drink in there.

Thanks to the link adrian-1 found and other peoples tips, I was able to install my AudioLink in 20 minutes!
Because I often use my cup holders, I ended up running the wires to the glove box. I used double stick tape to mount the unit to the back of the glove box.
Everything works as advertised and the new playlist feature is great! But, for some reason, I can only select from the first 5 playlists (instead of 9). I wonder if my batch is only supposed to support up to 5?

I just did my install last night, I just want to share my experience with you. I installed the Audio Link in the hidden compartment but I had to splice the cable that attaches to the head unit. The stock cable is no where near long enough to reach. I extended the cable about 2 feet and ended up putting the "black box" in the hidden comartment. The wire was passed through the piece that the power supply is attached to. I had to do a little cutting to allow it to pass.
Pulling the head unit out is not as hard as everyone says, if you drop the glovebox you can push the head unit out from behind, well, half of it, but once that is out, the rest is easy. providing that the bolt on the side is removed. And yes, I did drop the bolt when i removed it, but I was able to find it.
I will post pictures of the finished install tonight. I dont have any pictures of the installation because I was trying to get this done as quickly as possible. I was battling sunlight.
One question for falcontx...
Once you are in playlist mode, is there any way to return to the regular mode? I have an ipod video.

Falcon,
Can you save me an hour of searching through this thread and tell me how I can order the unit for $120 instead of the $140 that is listed on your website?
Thanks!

When you place the order, type in "RX8MP3" in the coupon code, its on one the screens before you enter your payment info.

If I have the first gen Audio Link would there be a way to upgrade to the newer version with playlist selection capability ? I was looking over the first page and couldn't find any information regarding my question.

Falcon, is the info on your site correct, that orders placed today (like mine, I got my confirmation email already) won't be shipped 'til next week?

I ordered mine yesterday and I got an e-mail today saying it will ship the week of March 20-24. Just as well I guess as the temps dropped here again - I'm not much for working on a frozen car!
BTW, I was with scoreo99 when he dropped "The Bolt" ...just seconds after realizing he forgot the blue tacky stuff for the socket and deciding he didn't need it! I said forget it, it's gone - but he manged to find it! I still can't believe you found it. Did you ever put the bolt back, though?
Can't wait to tear my car apart and put it in!
Just a quick question - those that got the connection behind the radio by dropping the glove box without removing the HU - any of these LH drive - or were they all Right hand drive? I tried to reach behind the radio from the glove box, but there was no chance of getting across to the other side where the connection needed to be made.

I used the drop the glove box route, its a LH drive. The key was my 14 year old son made the connection....no way I could get my hand and arm back behind the head unit.

I had to get under the steering wheel to route it under the head unit and under the ash tray, but it worked for me.
My black box remained in the gear shift area and I have my Ipod in the hidden compartment.

I have had mine installed for about a week now.
In absolute terms as a IPOD-to-factory radio intigration device, I give it a B-
In terms of value, for $120 I give it an A-
The interface is a bit lacking and the system only resumes playing the last song only about 50% of the time when I start the car.
It keeps my IPOD charged and has good audio quality. Having steering wheel controls is the big-big plus to all of this.
My enjoyment will improve when I get my playlists all worked out, but my ratings are pretty much set - an O.K. product for a great price.
