Ooh Christmas present time!
So I read most of this thread yadda yadda. Sounds like a great system and the only one that will do text display (Audiolink now does it but only if you have a "SAT" button, which mine doesn't, only Tape/MD). However, seems a bit of a problem w/ the heat. So here's my question:
Does anyone who bought at the AutoToys site:
http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=10025
know if they are shipping Hardware Revision F?
I went to ask them specifically but their email is down.

Their customer service is horrid if you get your product at all. There are links to other companies elseware in the thread that sell the Axxess Box. Personally I would call them and have them verify hardware version number. Axxess has been really cool about working with me on the hardware problem so even if it isn't fixed in Revision F they will stand behind their product and get you something that works.

Well, I ended up getting this Axxess box. I called the RPM Store and spoke with some guy, Dave, I think. Anyway, he was familiar with this forum and confirmed that the heat issues are fixed. So I ordered the adapter.
Since Mazda had to remove my non working Phatbox, I asked them to put in the adapter while they had the stereo out.
This thing works like a charm. My biggest issue was not getting the box to work, but more getting the IPOD to do what I wanted. hehe Once I figured its just easier to go to Shuffle Songs and let the thing go, I was happy. I do have 3 playlists on the Ipod. One for me, one for my wife, and one for my daughter.
On my wish list for the Axxess box:
1: Have the song titles auto scroll, instead of having to move the ****.
2: Let the RDM button play songs randomly.
Other than that, I love it. Only issue I have with it is that very rarely, I just see MD on the display, but nothing plays. All I have to do usually is turn the car off and restart (kinda like rebooting PC I guess) and it fires right up.

1) Auto scroll would rock...
2) If I remember right RDM does turn on and off Shuffle...could be wrong though.
One thing you need to watch for, I don't know if I posted this here or not, if you change playlists in the upward direction...shuffle is shut off, if you go down it is fine. I passed the info along to the guy at Metra that I was talking to but he says they can't fix it as it is hardcoded into something they have no control over.
And as for having a MD but not audio playback...try disconnecting the iPod and reconnecting it. We don't need you flooding your engine over a couple tunes. :P

I have a a related question.
I bought the no-name 6 CD changer (for much less than 100 bucks) and it works fine.
I also bought the Audio-Link IPOD adapter which doesn't work (though I have a 9.55 version head unit).
One of the fixes suggested by the RPM store (nice folks) for the adapter was to remove the CD player.
That got me thinking that maybe my problem is the no-name changer.
RPM is working on a firmware fix (and will give me my money back), but I want to keep the adapter based on RX8 Club recommendations.
So if RPM Store doesn't come up with a fix soon, I may put the original single CD player back and see if that solves the problem.
What does anyone think?

Just purchaced one from http://www.renaissanceconcepts.net/ They have it listed as $150 and free shipping. I'll let you know how that goes. I'm planning on installing it the weekend after it arrives, so with standard shipping rates and delivery times, it'll likely be next tuesday or wednesday.
If this works well, I might have to buy an ipod for myself instead of just borrowing my gf's.
Edit: Yes, my weekends are really Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and every other Wednesday.

The other thing that makes me suspicious of the 6 CD player is the fact that AutoLink specifically says that in-trunk cd changers have to be disconnected.
The "generic" player I installed may have been configured as though it were external.
If this works (next weekend), I'll have a 6 CD changer for sale! (for a good price).

I guess I will put the stock cd player back Laythor, because as you say who needs CDs with an Ipod.

RPM sent me a replacement that I received minutes after changing out my 6 CD player for the single - with no luck. I left the singe in and hooked up the new AudioLink and voila. And yes the 6 CD player is for sale.
Revolution Performance Motorsports is true to their word; they promised and delivered. Can't ask for more than that.
Way to go RPM.

Yeah, I got some decent instructions.
Holler if you have a question and I'll see if I can find 'em and post 'em.
It is pretty straightforward.
Enjoy!

No destructions with mine other than "Plug the cable into the hole it fits in." You really can't mess it up though. Hard part is getting to the back of the radio but we have a couple walk throughs for that.

I am not handy at all. If I get one of those, who should I take it to get it installed?
I saw this - http://www.staticusers.net/rx-8/RX-8...n-iceLink.html - , and there is not way that I would be able to do all that without breaking something.
The Axxess player seems easy to install from little description that I got. If it's anything like above link, I guess I have to burn a lot of CD's.

ermm...yup...that is how you do it. The only difference is that the ICE adapter plugs into the back of the radio and the Axxess Connection is on the bottom. You can buy the box and take it to an installer...Im sure they would do it for a fee...or you can take it to the dealer and get the dealer to install their version. The only thing you really have to worry about during the whole install is scratching the front on the exposed shifter. Other than that you really can't "break" anything. If you have time, patience and the fortitude in your hands just do it yourself.

ipod touch axxess
I have a 2004 GT and I saw on RPMstore that the Axxess unit doesn't work with the iPod touch, is that true? Does anyone know or tested it? I saw before that someone tried with the iPhone and it seemed to work.

HELP!!!
My Axxess box has stopped working. It was working earlier today. I pulled up to a 7-11, went in. Left my wife and daughter in the car, with car running, and IPOD playing tunes thru the axxess. A few minutes later, my wife comes in and tells me something is wrong with the stereo. Its not playing music.
I get in the car and my CD player is playing. I press MD and nothing happens. I disconnect the IPOD, and reconnect. Press MD, nothing. I shut off the car, restart, press MD, nothing. Its not even recognizing the Axxess. It was playing when I pulled up to park, then just kinda died when I was not in the car.
So, later today, after a few hours, I get into the car. I had taken the IPOD with me while at a friends house. I press MD and the stereo displays, "NO DISK". Thinking that may be a good thing, I plug in the IPOD. Nothing plays. Press MD, says "NO DISK". Disconnect and reconnect IPOD, press MD and get nothing.
Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Try unplugging the Axxess box from the stereo harness and plugging it back in. This served me well for a while. If that doesn't fix it you need to bust back into your dash and make sure that the connector didn't fall of the bottom of the radio. God do I hate the Axxess mount.
