Hey, Devilboi, here's a couple of pics from my earlier post.

Hope that helps.

Sorry I haven't had much input lately to the conversation -- just slammed at work.

Still working perfectly -- and over Labor Day weekend it was SUPER hot (110+).

Glad you've got a conversation going with the Metra people, they seemed cool and responsive when I first checked the unit out.

Good Luck!

Well that is the one pict I needed for Matt...thanks Rogman. Now I need a picture of the adapter plugged in and the bracket mounted and the adapter tipped showing how it could slip past.

I wanted to stop by and say HI, I've been following this post for about a month now, It's what made me decide to get the Axxess adapter for my wifes RX8.

Unfortunately she's having the same issues as most of you, 20 min drive to and from work, ipod works great in the morning, but on the way home after the car sits in the parking lot all day, the adapter cuts out in one way or another, about 5-10 minutes into the afternoon drive.

After reading these posts i did put a temp gauge remote probe (actually a fish tank thermometer) under the radio where the adapter is, and she tells me it cuts out at 110 and it's cut out at 92. Honestly though, it still seems heat related to me.

Sure hope Axxess can fix the problem, because with an adapter that costs as much as a Nintendo DS, i'm thinking my money would have been better spent elsewhere.

Needless to say, i have sent an email to Axxess/Metra support, so we'll see what happens.

So another week down and not a single problem. Today when I went out the car was hot as hell as I can't open my windows, damn ceramic tint. Temp was 90 outside baking in the hot sun with humid air all around. I am going to ship back the old board on Monday. I am still looking for a picture of the connection to the bottom of the radio where you can see the board slip past the mount.

Well, I just got a call from Metra that have an updated Axxess box which will solve the heat problems. I was told that I will have to work through the retailer that I bought it from to get a replacement. We'll see how well Auto Toys handles this.

"Staff" from AutoToys originally said that they would do whatever Metra suggested. However, the same person also stated that Metra was unaware of any issues. *shrug* I really regret giving AutoToys my money.

New reply from AutoToys today after I told them what Metra tech support said and asked if AutoToys was going to help their customers. Based on the timing of the email responses I'm going to guess that this is one-person part-time (after regular day job) operation. We'll see how this plays out.

AutoToys:
We will help you but we need more info from them. The people at tech support doesnt pay for products that are shipped to us, once we talk to our reps, we wil have more info and then will give you your options.

I found the component that was overheating. I've been contemplating attaching a small heatsink to it as simply "heatsinking" it with my bare fingers is enough to quickly restore functionality.

My ash tray has been removed for the past few weeks while I wait on a fix from metra/autotoys/whoever.

With fall coming I'm guessing its a problem that will fade with the seasons. I havnt had any overheating in a while now.

Could you put up a picture with the item circled or at least describe it?

Thanks.

You have the updated Axxess and have had no problems? I really want to pick one up, but worry that I will be getting one of the old stock...

Not a single problem...however...we have only had 2 really hot days since I got it.

Update: And it looks like I spoke too soon because it happened again today. Axxess asked that I take apart my dash and verify that the connection wasn't loose at all...it wasn't. I sent them the picts they had asked for previously so that is taken care of. w0rm what part did you find to have an issue with?

Anyone have an update on this? I'm leaning towards getting the Axxess box, but don't want the heat issues. Is it confirmed that the newest batch has resolved the heat issues?

Axxess admitted that the revision E board had a faulty part, believe it was a transistor if I remember right, replaced on it. It is cool here now so I can't really test much until next year rolls around. I had hoped to drive 400 miles with my car to see if the distance driven had anything to do with it but a prescription of Oxycodone nixed that trip in the 8.

so do they have the new revision out yet? It's fall here now so I will be putting my ash tray/dash back together and sealing the unit in until spring shortly.
I hope they don't give us hassle about replacement.

Mine has been working 100% properly since the temps dropped a bit, and since I took the unit out of the plastic case(and left my ashtray out so open air cooled it)

This is killing me. I've been through 2 different brand of adapters and each has had its own issue. One gave excessive feedback/interference during music playback but otherwise sounded great and worked flawlessly- the other (the one I currently have) sounds quite distorted and doesn't always work properly, plus it doesn't keep the batter fully charged. But no interference. This Axxess module sounds like the perfect fit, plus it has text display which is a nice bonus, but it overheats. Is making an adapter REALLY that hard????

I want one that sounds GOOD and works reliably. I can't seem to find that. I don't require Ipod song selection. Wondering if the Mazda unit would actually fit the bill.

aCk.

Yeah. Def post a photo if you can, would help a lot. I'd like to buy this unit, and if attaching a heat sink with thermal grease would work, that would be huge.

Otherwise you've been happy with the sound quality and functionality?

Any updates on this Ipod adapter? I am looking to buy it if all the issues have been resolved. Otherwise I think I am going to buy the Audiolink Ipod adapter.

Summary: I bought the Audiolink and it was perfect except it had some kind of weird interference. Got a second one and same problem.

Then I bought a NeoLink and it has NO interference but it very buggy. Doesn't charge the ipod, sometimes it locks me out of radio control, etc. I am working with them on tech support right now.

I won't buy this one, I've only read of 1 person who hasn't had problems. Next up (if I can't fix the NeoLink) is probably the tried and true Mazda adapter. I hear it's flawless but you can't use the iPod to change tracks...just radio controls.

Sorry guys...can't answer...car is away for the winter. The Revision F hardware didn't seem to have issues that I was testing...but by that point it really was just too cold.

Ooh Christmas present time!

So I read most of this thread yadda yadda. Sounds like a great system and the only one that will do text display (Audiolink now does it but only if you have a "SAT" button, which mine doesn't, only Tape/MD). However, seems a bit of a problem w/ the heat. So here's my question:

Does anyone who bought at the AutoToys site:
http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=10025
know if they are shipping Hardware Revision F?
I went to ask them specifically but their email is down.

Flomulgator: i would make sure the kinks have been worked out. I just read this thread in its entirety a couple hours ago and i didnt see a definitive answer whether the (apparent)temperature issues were worked out in the new revision
